1) What first got you collecting diecast? How long have you been collecting? What is your total model count as of today?
I was drawn to cars that had good proportions. I wanted to be a car designer at an early age, so I started sketching cars inspired by elongated proportions and dynamic shapes. To this day, I’ve grown my collection, but it has grown bigger in the last couple of years.
2) What was your first diecast or memory?
Porsche 911 996 Turbo from Bburago.
3) What is your favourite scale, and why?
1:18 is the sweet spot for detail and price; however, 1:12th scale is the ultimate size, as I’m currently working on finishing a Porsche Carrera GT 1:12th scale model from Tamiya.
4) What are some of your favourite models to date? Did you share any photos with us?
The Maserati Quattroporte from 2003-2012, Hotwheels made one, but I wish some of the competitors could make an even better version, hopefully by KK-Scale or Cult Scale models, or the lower price option from Maisto or Bburago.
5) Is there a model that has eluded you, a holy grail of sorts?
As for the budget options, in my opinion, nothing competes with the Ferrari 550 Maranello from Maisto in 1:18th scale that I currently own. It was produced in the golden era of Maisto.
6) What is your favourite brand/manufacturer, and why?
KK-scale is really impressive with its detailing and moulds as far as the eye can see, especially for the price point, but Maisto is actually a fun option too, depending on the model and make, of course.
7) Describe your current theme and what your overall goal is?
The 60s, 70s, late 90s, and early 2000s are the era of cars that satisfy the eyes for me. Proportions that made an Impact on car design in the industry, wedge-shaped, rounded, strong arches and defined wheel stance.
8) Do you display your collection? If yes, how?
Yes, in my room on a shelf, nothing that is shown to others that often, maybe one day.
9) Do you have any other hobbies, passions or addictions?
Music production, e-sports gaming, off-road biking, car simulators, car design and sketching.
10) What do you think about the diecast hobby as it stands today?
I would like to see more intricate detailing of the suspension in these models with more soft and supple ride heights once the model is put on a surface, to further enhance the realism of the car, soft suspension travel. Today, most models with suspension are often fitted with hard steel springs that are quite firm to press down, thus giving them a higher stance than anticipated.
11) If you could change one thing about the diecast hobby what would that be?
Develop a better and softer, more life-like suspension feel of the model, making it a feature, rather than an afterthought.
12) Do you modify cars? If yes, what are some examples?
Not really, I seek cars that primarily showcase the pure design language of the car, the more pedestrian it is, the more interested I am in those models, not interested in a GT3RS as much as I am in the entry level version of a 911, a good example is the carrera 4 from the late 90s with the egg yolk headlights, and also the generation after like the 911 Turbo from 2001 with Smooth wheel design, just pure is the way for me.
13) What does your spouse, partner or significant other think of your hobby and your collection?
Not really an issue, yet.
14) What is your daily driver?
An Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 Twinspark from 2003, pre-facelift.
Congratulations Juliusz for your very nice collection! As I can see from the pictures, we have the same taste in model cars, because I also own all these models, some of them from different brands.
I really love the 550 Maranello, a timeless, beautiful and elegant supercar with the ultimate super GT design ever in the specific category, in my opinion.
Keep collecting and enjoy!
