1) What first got you collecting diecast? How long have you been collecting? What is your total model count as of today?
The size of the 43rd, I’ve been collecting for 55 years, with denominations I’ve had up to 500, I sold 300, and then I got some 1:18 scale. That’s where we are today…
2) What was your first diecast or memory?
A Solido Porsche Carrera 6, with opening doors.
3) What is your favourite scale, and why?
At the moment, 1:18 is my primary scale. The size and details with pricing in most cases is optimal.
4) What are some of your favourite models to date? Did you share any photos with us?
The 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO from CMR, in 1:18 scale, and the MGB GT from AUTOart in 1:18 scale. Stellar!
5) Is there a model that has eluded you, a holy grail of sorts?
Yes, been trying to acquire the Lotus 30 from Tecnomodel in 1:18 scale. Thus far, it’s been a challenge!
6) What is your favourite brand/manufacturer, and why?
Revell and IXO. Both brands provide excellent value for the money.
7) Describe your current theme and what your overall goal is?
Competition between 1:43 & 1:18 scales… Let me explain. In 1:43 scale, due to overall size and selection takes up less space; and once you start collectoring it’s hard to stop the train!
8) Do you display your collection? If yes, how?
Yes, I do. In select display cabinets. I like to create dioramas, though some of very small and specific. You’ll get the idea based on the photos provided.
9) Do you have any other hobbies, passions or addictions?
Car magazines, painting, and I like working on DIY projects.
10) What do you think about the diecast hobby as it stands today?
The designs are increasingly beautiful, with plenty of choice, at all price points.
11) If you could change one thing about the diecast hobby what would that be?
More new models for sure. I personally love what is currently coming from Cult Scale Models. at the moment. Just terrific!
12) Do you modify cars? If yes, what are some examples?
Almost every time! Especially with 1:18 scale. I like to update the models where I can, based on my skills. This usually involves adding flocking to interiors, wires and hoses to the motors and changing the wheels to aftermarket sets.
13) What does your spouse, partner or significant other think of your hobby and your collection?
My partner thinks it takes up a lot of space, which it does, but she’s cool with it overall. Lucky me!
14) What is your daily driver?
If the question is about my everyday car, it’s not too fast, but it has good acceleration. Let’s leave it at that, LOL.
