1) What first got you collecting diecast? How long have you been collecting? What is your total model count as of today?
In my country, there were nearly zero supercars back in the late 90’s, because we were just opening our eyes from 40 years of communism where everybody had everything, but also nothing (as we used to say). When I turned 18, I moved to England and there my passion started as a car spotter. Back then not even Shmee existed and look at him now So I started dreaming about these supercars seen in TopGear and FifthGear back in 2003. I thought “3 TOP supercars from Maisto are enough”, so I bought Murcielago, Carrera GT and SLR. But as we all know, “3 models are enough” is the biggest lie to ourselves, right? So I continued buying some Ferraris etc… Then my dealer introduced me to AUTOart world and here I lost everything with my first AUTOart bought – the Porsche 996 GT2.
2) What was your first diecast or memory?
Maisto Lamborghini Murcielago.
3) What is your favourite scale, and why?
1:18. It’s a proper size to see details.
4) What are some of your favourite models to date? Did you share any photos with us?
I love most of my models the same, but of course those highly detailed ones are usually my favourite ones. So let me name some… Anything Aventadors, Pagani models, V12 Ferrari models, Bugatti etc. I do have a few models and certificates signed by CEOs or very important people too. I don’t recall sharing any photos and I’m just wondering why I didn’t do so just yet.
5) Is there a model that has eluded you, a holy grail of sorts?
Yes! AUTOart Lamborghini Murcielago 40th Anniversary. Back then, my dealer called me that he had a special offer of a very limited Murcielago. 140EUR he said. I asked him if he was okay, no way I’m gonna spend 140 for a scale model!!! 20 years later… Boy oh boy…
6) What is your favourite brand/manufacturer, and why?
My favourite brand is AUTOart, but LCD is stepping up pretty quickly lately!
7) Describe your current theme and what your overall goal is?
I collect EU supercars/hypercars, mostly Italian, British and German. There are a few Japanese cars as well.
8) Do you display your collection? If yes, how?
Yes, I finally do. After a long 18 years of collecting, I could finally build my display cabinets. I was just waiting till I settled down with the family and was able to have my own mancave. Until then, I stored all my models in boxes, only 12 were displayed in the mini display cabinet.
9) Do you have any other hobbies, passions or addictions?
There go supercars hand in hand with models. I participate in a beautiful event here in Czech, called “Sausages and Cars” – first it was supposed to be a parody name to “Cars&Coffee”, but the event grew into a beautiful gathering at the castle park, where you can see Bugattis, MC12, Lambos, Ferraris and other supercars.
10) What do you think about the diecast hobby as it stands today?
It’s very expensive hobby where no one is understood by his family LOL.
11) If you could change one thing about the diecast hobby what would that be?
If I knew how the prices will skyrocket, I would bought as many AUTOart Signatures as I could… Now I would be a millionaire!
12) Do you modify cars? If yes, what are some examples?
No, I keep all my models in original condition. Even if I would like to lower some fronts of my models, I just can’t decide whether to “ruin” the original state, or have it look better…
13) What does your spouse, partner or significant other think of your hobby and your collection?
My wife used to be quite upset whenever I bought a new model. Now she’s okay with it, but she does not support me.
14) What is your daily driver?
Nothing special, Toyota estate.
A very impressive and well displayed collection! Congrats!
Beautiful collection and great commentary!
Really nice, not all the people care the colors of the car, look how good they look with that chromatic richness.
Really impressed, LOVE IT! nice job!
Many thanks for your nice comment! This is the result of collecting mostly launch colors of real cars or colors of real cars I have seen in flesh and which got deep into my head :-)
