Yes, this is true, as stated on a couple of Asian MINI GT sites via press release it states BBR is entering the 1:64 arena with their new series and MINT GT or should we say TSM will be the official distributor. Is this good news or bad news for the hobby? And is this likely what other brands if not already jumping on the bandwagon will do or are in the process of implementing too? 2022 will inevitably see another retail increase, we’ve already seen a rise within the back-half of 2021. The causality, which is sad, some will find the larger scales no longer affordable and move elsewhere.
Getting back to the original story, is this a good thing or not. No, the market is already saturated with many 1:64 manufacturers in open, mid and high-end pricing. And we don’t believe the partnership will be distribution only, likely MINI GT taking on much more than the press release would like you to believe. So is this the old bait and switch with a higher price tag? Possibly, as BBR has made a name for connecting with collectors with their high-end 1:18 and some 1:43 assortment. Our ask to you collectors is, keep them honest and ensure they deliver a premium product if that product is commanding a higher price tag.
I think it is more appropriate for BBR to cooperate with LCD.
1:64 is like ferrari making an SUV. No one likes it, but it’s good for business lol
LOL what as a collector of all scales 1/64 is just amazing giving collectors lots of options and the ability to collect even more due to the size. if no one likes it who is buying said scale?
It’s not a question of numbers, 1:64 outsells all by a considerable margin. It’s more of a BBR presence here, not sure if it’s welcome or a good thing in the end. All of us started collecting long ago, and it was likely 1:64. Is that image being somewhat tarnished? Maybe we’re being to righteousness, not sure…
