Amalgam is showing off its completed 1:18 resin and sealed Bugatti Type 59 – the replica is based on the car raced to 5th position by Tazio Nuvolari at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1934. The team claims “800 hours of development” R&D but we think CMC can do it better, much better. And if we’re not mistaken at about the same price!
Product# TBD
Best Type 59 released so far. We can see they put a lot of effort but unfortunately this remains a closed resin version. CMC did the Type 35 in full metal and full opening. For sure on another level but we can only hope that CMC, one day makes the Type 59 in scale.
Just checked the price on Amalgam website…$1,360 USD is a hefty price. I paid $390 for my Type 35 (re-released version)
That price indeed is hefty! You could buy two fantastic CMC models for that.
Well, I already have the Bburago Bugatti Type 59, that I paid around 35 guilders for (16 euro) about 35 years ago.
For CMC’s to be better, firts it should look more like the real car than the models they make normally. Their scaling and replication of the miniatures are pretty bad. Their replicas are not always so much replicas of the real cars. The level of detail could be good, but they haven’t been improved since I bought my first models of them 15 years ago and I even think they have fallen off over time. Also after seeing the Exoto XS series, I also think that a CMC no longer produces the same things to you. I prefer a sealed model like this one that looks like the real car. I don’t give an opinion on price.
Just for the record, Amalgam has their challenges in executing replicas in all scales too – read the comments from seasoned collectors… This includes replicas north of $20,000 US.
