Rewind 30 years, and you will land on 1995 – a year where McLaren F1 GTR dominated the racing scene at the Le Mans World Endurance Race. In 1995, the Le Mans racing event was characterized by exceptionally wet conditions, which played in favour of the McLaren F1 GTR’s robust design and capabilities of BMW BMW-sourced S70/2 V12 engine. They earned a historic first, third, fourth and fifth place finish, cementing their legacy as one of the most successful GT cars to ever compete at Le Mans. While the blue and grey livery #50 car of the Giroix Racing Team did not claim the overall victory, it did showcase F1 GTR’s exceptional performance and reliability by securing an impressive fifth-place finish. McLaren dominated the top positions, which was truly remarkable as it was derived from a road car.
While many enthusiasts select either street cars or race cars, others gather them both and create truly unique and colourful displays. Acquiring all liveries can get very expensive, and that is where an important budget brand like Solido comes to the rescue.
Having already produced a few liveries of the McLaren F1 GTR, and announcing others in their future releases, Solido gives collectors the ability to scoop them all for a very reasonable cost… and why not?
As I have done a review of their 1:18th scale McLaren F1 GTR in the past, I would like to showcase a photo gallery this time around, as I think this blue and grey livery deserves to be seen. Filled with sponsorship decals, Solido re-created a piece of racing history crafted in a die-cast body shell with opening doors. This allows access to the interior and takes us back to a time when interiors were not just screens as they are today. Back then, buttons were dominating, and this model replicates them well with a splash of colour to brighten things up and remind us how different things used to be.
While it does not have the intricate details of much more expensive, higher-end models, it does offer a great representation of the iconic short-tail version of the McLaren F1 GTR by providing a quality replica at a much lower price point. Solido consistently puts in good effort and offers us great models of a wide range of road cars and race cars to satisfy diversified appetites. If you ask me, it is a winning formula. Enjoy the pictures!

Definitely one of their better race cars. I don’t think we will ever get tired of seeing the Mac in street or race trim, a timeless design! Thanks, Luk!
