AUTOart gives fans a first look at their upcoming 1:18 McLaren P1 GTR in Volcano Orange. We originally highlighted the Dark Hyper Silver and Red earlier this month. Again the model looks sharp, but AUTOart has pulled the plug on storage, suspension and motor access, these areas remain sealed. Only exception is the access to interior bits. The P1 GTR should hit North American shores in later October.

I’m seeing the continued decline of the hobby here. More and more sealed or mostly sealed models with little if any reduction in price. The cost of producing sealed models is so much less, with hugely reduced requirement for detail like engine bay and trunk, no more working suspension and steering, no more working hinge mechanisms for doors, hood and trunk. The savings including associated assembly costs, going straight into the manufacturer’s pockets by way of hugely increased margins. The end result will be almost exclusively sealed models at premium prices. So sad.
Wise words.
I don’t agree with AutoArts current pricing either, but I am pretty sure that McLaren had a say in this when it came to accessible engine.
That being said, we also have semi openable models where I doubt the reason was a manufacturer request (Rocket Bunny GT86, RWB Porsche), but at least those had a smaller pricetag.
I got some sort of plastic key with mine. What’s it for?
The key included with the model is used to access the internal bits of the model. Interior, motor, etc.
Does the car have 2 seats?
I believe one.
I’m surprised autoart is still relevant. Stratospheric pricing, and much reduced line-up, apart from the incessant production of multiple colors for the same model.
This will be the last model from autoart for me.
I understand the lab our cost in China has gone up.
But I want diecast not composite… But cant pass on the P1 GTR
