The BMW M5 (G90) introduces a significant technical change for the model line, becoming the first M5 to use a plug‑in hybrid powertrain. Arriving for the 2025 model year, it is based on the latest 5 Series architecture and reflects BMW M’s shift toward electrification while retaining the traditional M5 formula of high performance in a four‑door sedan. The G90 is larger and heavier than previous generations, with a wider stance and more pronounced bodywork, while the interior emphasizes comfort, space, and digital integration through BMW’s iDrive 8.5 system. Overall, the car places greater emphasis on refinement and everyday usability compared with earlier M5s, without abandoning its performance focus.
The powertrain combines a 4.4‑liter twin‑turbocharged V8 with an electric motor integrated into the eight‑speed automatic transmission, producing a combined 717 horsepower and 738 lb‑ft of torque. Power is delivered through M xDrive all‑wheel drive, with configurable rear‑biased modes. BMW claims 0–60 mph in approximately 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph when equipped with the M Driver’s Package. A 22.1 kWh battery enables up to around 42 miles of electric driving, though the additional hybrid hardware increases curb weight to more than 5,300 pounds. To offset this, BMW employs adaptive M suspension, rear‑wheel steering, and electronic traction systems to maintain stability and performance consist
From a value perspective, Solido continues to serve the budget‑friendly end of the market well, offering a wide selection of BMW models spanning different eras. This M5 fits neatly within that line-up and presents well overall. Finished in Isle of Man Green Metallic, the colour suits the car nicely and adds visual interest without being overly bold. The honeycomb‑style wheels stand out as a highlight and contribute positively to the model’s stance, giving it a modern and recognizable BMW M appearance on the shelf.
The interior reflects the model’s accessible price point, with limited fine detailing but a cohesive overall presentation. The tan and black colour scheme, combined with the familiar blue M striping across the dashboard, creates a clean and purposeful look. While close inspection reveals simplified detailing, the interior works effectively as part of the complete model and complements the exterior without drawing attention to its limitations.
There are, however, a few shortcomings worth noting. Our sample displays a noticeable reverse rake, with the front sitting higher than the rear. This appears to be a quality control inconsistency, likely the result of mass production rather than a design choice. While it does not significantly detract from the model’s overall appeal, it is a detail collectors may want to be aware of. Enjoy the pics!
