PHOTO GALLERY: Solido Volkswagen Beetle Baja Green/Black

Having done a full review of the Solido 1/18 Volkswagen Beetle Baja on some rocks here on DiecastSociety.com not too long ago, I decided to do a photo gallery of this new spec. This time around I changed things up a little and gave it a different habitat – I photographed it on sand rather than rocks. Let me tell you, things get a little messy with sand and a post-cleanup is required. After all, why not have a little fun…right?

This new release is finished in metallic green with a matte black roof, with graphics on the sides and front trunk. This combination works well, especially with silver rims and rugged off-road tires. The level of detail and quality are unchanged on this release – antennas are packaged separately as they were before. Solido has included a door-opening tool – definitely a nice touch.

Models from this budget-friendly brand are manufactured in die-cast metal with opening doors. I would like to point out that Solido made some changes to the way this model is packaged. First, they added tape to hold the doors shut. Although a great idea, peeling it is not fun and even when peeling the tape off slowly some glue residue was left on the doors. You will need a glue solvent solution to get that glue residue off – a little bit of an annoyance to me. The way this model is mounted has also changed – it is now mounted to a plastic base with Beetle Baja script on the bottom left of the base. For those who like to display models mounted to their bases, this will be a welcomed change. For me personally, it makes no difference as I like to remove my models from their boxes or any bases they are mounted on.

If you would like to read in more detail and see the other colour options, please read my review posted HERE. With so many Volkswagen fans out there, any new configuration is always welcomed. Which one is your personal favourite – the earlier blue or this newer green release? Don’t be shy, share your thoughts in the comments below. I hope you enjoy the pics!

Thanks, Luk! There is something about this Solido Volkswagen Baja that resonates well with us… Yes, the model does show its budget-friendly ties, but hey, the shelf presence can’t be disputed! Nice touch with the gravel!

Thank you Luke for the very nice pictures and kudos for the sand scenery, it is a great idea that boosts up the photo gallery! A very nice touch indeed!

The photos in the sand are amazing! Especially with the wheels and bumpers partially covered with sand!
I believe Solido could benefit from producing “dirty versions” of these nice models (similarly to e.g. “dirty versions” of Land Rovers by Almost Real).
