REVIEW: OttOmobile BMW M535i (E12)

This model was announced back in July 2014 by OttOmobile, the BMW M535i (E12). It wasn’t a priority at first, but then for some reason the model grew on me, so I acquired one on the last Euro order. I’m happy to report this is one of the cleanliest examples from OttOmobile to date. What I’m referring to is the number of quality control issues the company has experienced since its introduction. My model is issue free, something not of the norm unfortunately…

The OttOmobile BMW M535i is beautifully cast. The M535i is a late 70s, early 80s production. The aggressive front fascia flows nicely to the rear, which mates to an aggressive rubber upper spoiler. Based on images I reviewed the model is spot on, though some may say the overall ride height is little more aggressive than the original. Well, I’d much rather have it be too low than too high. The white paint is clean, thick and lush throughout. Chrome work is very good too, and there is quite a bit of it on this piece.

Pin-striping throughout is nicely executed. OttOmobile even captured the two rivets on each side of the front bumper. Headlights and taillights are quality pieces, which add to overall realism of the piece. From the top view, the outline of the power sunroof is present, but being a sealed resin model there is no accessible part.

The wheels are quality pieces too. The challenge of meeting the minute detail of the BBS style wheel was met with precision, though I can’t see any detail extending to the brake rotors and calipers. I don’t believe the pieces were added due to the size and scale of the wheel.

Inside, the blue-red striping continues front to rear. Interior is finished in black for the most part; there is no flocking or carpeting here. Door cards and dash do receive wood inserts as per the original. Overall everything works; fit and finish are very good.

The OttOmobile BMW M535i (E12) might not be the piece for everyone, but for someone like me who likes to collect the “M” badge it makes a perfect fit to the collection. Fit and finish here is some of the best I’ve seen from OttOmobile, and I’ve seen plenty, actually 18 models in all. This one is a winner, add one before they are gone. Enjoy the pics!

Lovely review as usual and Ottto seem to be moving forward with their quality issues, but imagine if Autoart did this??
