2020 Scale Model Of The Year, WE NEED YOUR INPUT!

It’s that time of year where we review the best of the best for 2020.   As for 2020, this year was somewhat of a disappointment, pandemic aside, the overall enthusiasm and emotion to us was definitely lacking.  So, we want to hear from you, each collector, each fan!  What model tickled your fancy best in 2020?  This does not mean the most expensive or limited production piece.  In true scale model passion, we want to know what model spoke to YOU best?

We comprised a list of some of our favourites throughout the year, we’re sure there are more.  So please, post your favourite (s).  Please include brand, vehicle, and scale.  The final candidate list will be narrowed down to the top 10-15 models.  The official voting will take place from mid-December through February 2021.  Good luck to all!

1:18 AUTOart Dodge Viper ACR! I have a soft spot for that car since I watched the Nürburgring lap…the effort was possible because of its fans contributing via crowdfunding! How crazy and beautiful is that story?

  2. Redwan Ahmed says:

    CMC Mercedes Benz Pullman W100

  3. Greg says:

CMC MB 600 Pullman with sunroof. Great detail and paint quality.

  4. ilka says:

Solido was on fire this year, with few solid (excuse the pun) budget models. My fav of them tho is Mk1 GT40, strange that it’s not in the list. For the bang for a buck this is probably my fav model of the year. Norev’s 500SL is another very good bang-for-the-buck model, and not only 500SL, I’d add W123 Mercs to the list.

As for other candidates it’s hard to judge, AR and AA has made a lot of great models, most of which are out of my interest. But the Camaro is on my bucket list alongside with Challengers.

Another kind of unsung hero missing in this list is GMP/Acme’s Coronet Super Bee. With all the shortcomings of the final product, they finally did it, after almost a decade of unfortunate circumstances. And the result is very worthy.

    • DS Team says:

Yes, good call on the MKI GT40. We just took photos of the AC Cobra 427 MKII w/ Hard Top. it’s brilliant for the price.

Is the Coronet Super Bee out yet?

  5. Kostas says:

In my opinion, the Peako De Tomaso P72 in soul red. I added it in my collection a few months ago and it is the definition of an eye candy model car. It is very well made and absolutely gorgeous from any angle and the soul red colour is stunning and by far the most perfect one for the P72.

  6. Srgski says:

  15. .JM says:

    +1 for the Solido Ford GT40 !

  16. smsr725 says:

Norev’s Mercedes Benz S123 wagon – 230T 1980, one amazing model with great details in relatively affordable range.

I am confused with the Norev’s W123 200 1982. That also came out in 2020?

Next Almost Real’s Defender 2020 assortment is also nice.

  17. Cobra King says:

    3) Autoart mclaren 720s
    4) CMC Pullman
    5) Autoart viper acr
    6) LCD 600lt

I believe the model of the year it will be the BBR laferrari or the LCD huayra roadster or
    the cmc Pullman

  22. Evert Delanoye says:

Peako De Tomaso P72. Probably won’t get many votes because hardly anybody has one, but it’s a great model of the most surprising concept of the past few years IMHO

  23. MIke D says:

Also on board with – 1/18 BBR Ferrari LaFerrari – brilliant execution in diecast with all opening bits. Paint application is superlative as well.

  24. Frank Frak says:

    Kyosho lx570

    ACME Shelby GT350R

    Autoart McLaren 720s

    Very good!

  25. Evert Delanoye says:

If we’re taking everything into consideration, the Bburago Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 should make the top 3. This is the best effort price/quality I’ve ever seen in a model car. Of course in the 40$ price range there’re some compromises to be made, but Bburago kept it to a minimum and delivered a must have model. The only thing is people aren’t used to vote for Bburago as a model car of the year.

  26. Dexter Hadley says:

Cult MG TD a model i`ve been waiting to see for many years

  27. 288_gto says:

    TOYOTA LC 60 Kyosho

  28. P930 says:

TrueScale Miniatures (TSM) 1932 Bentley Blower No. 1 is one of the most interesting and unusual models to be produced in 1/18 scale this year. Part of their Collection d’Elegance line, it replicates the Bentley which set a Brooklands record of 137.96 mph on a closed course in 1932. I believe that historical significance and rarity in a model are more important than complexity and number of fiddly bits.

  29. Emanuele Masneri says:

    AUTOart – Pagani Huayra Roadster
Almost Real – Land Rover Defender 110

  30. Gulfboy says:

CMC Mercedes Benz 600 Pullman (W100).

It‘s little bit too expensive for me but it has so much details!

  31. Nima Mojtahedzadeh says:

KK Scale – Ferrari 288 GTO

I know it’s not perfect, but it looks great besides other 80’s Ferraris made by high-end dicast models such as Kyoshos.

  32. Lawrence says:

    CMC Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman (W100) 1/18
    CMC Jaguar C Type 1/18
Almost Real – Land Rover Defender 110 1/18
LCD Models – Pagani Huayra Roadster 1/18
    BBR – Ferrari Laferrari 1/18
    KengFai Acura NSX 1/18
    AUTOart – Koenigsegg Regera 1/18
    AUTOart – Koenigsegg One:1, (Clear Carbon) 1/18
    AUTOart – McLaren 720S 1/18
    AUTOart – Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1/18
Maisto – Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 1/18 (only fully opening model)

  33. Pablo Pozo says:

    Schuco Volkswagen T4b Westfalia Camper

  34. Joakim Allvin says:

    AutoArt 1/18 – Viper ACR
AutoArt 1/18 Audi S1 Sport Quattro

The model that SPEAKS to me the most however is AutoArt Challengers, even though the first one`s to be released this December I guess that we wait with those to Scale model of The Year 2021. :)

  35. Patrick Timmermans says:

    Peako De Tomaso definitely

  36. crz says:

    LCD McLaren 600LT for me.

    • Anonymous says:

Definitely agree with you. Autoart composhit 600lt wont be valued for 200usd for mediocre details. Also lcd 600lt was the first 18 diecast that have folding side mirrors pretty cool and also that engine bay glorious.

  37. R.G says:

Solido Porsche 964 Turbo. That thing is just gorgeous. Shape is spot on! Very good budget friendly entrance to the hobby and holds its own between far more expensive models. My winner of 2020!
