Amalgam New Ferrari 330 P4

Amalgam is expanding their 1:18 series with a classic race car from Ferrari, the 330 P4.  This Le Mans legend was raced by Ludovico Scarfiotti and Mike Parkes in 1968.  Fans still rate this as one of the most loved race cars from the marque due to its line.  If interested, an example will set you back about $685 US.

I’m having high hopes that CMC would someday do 330. Currently there’s no real good all around model that I’d love to get.
Been on the fence with GMP, but decided to avoid it, because it’s so wrong in the front, and on the stance, it’s frustrating.
There are few other manufacturers which are/were making sealed 330 (as this one i believe is sealed too?) which you could get for double/ almost triple less price now.
And i don’t see the point in this one, even if it’s better detailed, with so limited access to the details it’s useless.
    C’mon CMC, make us happy!

For this price one could almost buy the MFH 1/12 scale kit, but then building it is another matter. The Technomodel version wasn’t bad, but the tires are terrible, I agree the GMP versions are a mess, not sure if CMC would be right answer either, lots of complaints about QC issues on Jaguar. GP Replicas makes one but the shape is also wrong. The best days of collecting are over.

I have the GMP P4, I got it signed by Sir Jackie Stewart, its ” a beautiful model of a beautiful car”, his words. I think it is a good model, far from being a mess. I think Amalgam have done a very good job on this. Its just a little bit too much money for a resin cast model.

I have GMP 312 pb, and 330 with body panels on the car looks nowhere near as good, imo. It’s definitely a miss.
Still, probably it’s the best version of 330 in 1/18, because at least the access to the components can compensate the external looks.
Still, considering there are still so much more exciting models to get – more Exoto gt40 variations, CMC birdcage and Can-Am ferrari, i have to at least put the 330 to the lowest priority. Which is a shame, GT40 need their rival.

I purchased the Jouef, 1/18th scale version of the P-4 when it was introduced and, despite its flaws, I haven’t found another version which better captures the essence of the car. It opens up fully, and cost a fraction of what later versions cost.

I’m sorry- $685 for what is, in essence, a sealed lump of plastic? Has this hobby gone insane?

  6. MLB says:

Once again….another overpriced unlimited model from Amalgam with flaws. Rivets are all too large – out of scale, window frames are not good, wiper is too heavy handed, shade of gold paint on wheels is wrong. Interior detail is no better than on some very good 1:24th models.

And… they couldn’t even place the interior rear view mirror at the correct angle….these “fellows” mounted it angled away form the driver.

David Hepp has it spot on. The Joueff 330 P4 models are beautiful evocations of the most beautiful racecar Ferrari’s genius ever produced. An their 412P is fine too.
