My Review…
I would have given this 2.5 Stars if I could have… For what you pay & are expecting for a car with the name ACME. If this was a $30 ERTL car I’d have given it 4-4.5 stars…
It’s very detailed, beautiful car for sure. However the fit/finish, build / quality control is poor & appears to been built to move as fast as possible with better profits rather than how some of the older ACME cars are.
Things I didn’t like:
-Cowl Hood just sets on, no attachments and it does not sit flush at all unless you hold pressure down on it(3/32″ gap on RF & less on LF. Opposite for the rear @ the Cowl.
-Hood hits something, also it’s flimsy plastic
-Doors do not close all the way & rear protrudes 3/32″ +
-Drivers door sills is coming off
-Wheelie bar snaps onto the rear diff & hangs (Poor design) so it swings & will fall downward if you pic the car up
-One side of the wheelie bar clamps is too large to actually snap on…
-Parachute only has 1/16″ or less engagement & needed slight filing to fit
-Steering shaft is melted to almost a 1/4″ round area at the bottom end where it meets the center link(steering) it hits the A-Arms therefore won’t turn to the right without snapping & popping over the K-Member each time
-Center link itself has step ups in diameter mimicking the points that the inner tie rods would attach & these are physically wedged between the K-Member & the lower K-Member(piece that holds down the front wheels) therefore wheels won’t turn in either direction without bending the shaft & center link
-Trunk lid does not close all the way & Spoiler hits the quarter panels
-Spoiler mounting design is poor, small cheap rivets letting the spoiler rock
-All 4 wheels are extremely tight and will not rotate unless you force them or push down on the car while rolling it
Overall the car is just badly put together and poorly thought out…for example the doors both rock up & down 3/16″ & the whole model creeks , twists and flexes as if nothing was made to fit or most likely… Rushed into production to make money ASAP with no care… Build quality is worse than a ERTL & not in the same universe as a Highway 61. Cosmetically it’s what you’ve come to expect from ACME… Very detailed
I have a older ACME Smokie Yunick Mustang & I had virtual no complaints… Seems ACME has sold out so to speak.
The things I like,
Very good detail
Parts, accessories & details are well thought out… Well designed cosmetically
For the money, I am surprised there are not more complaints.
Perfect car for something you never want to touch or move…. But if that’s what you want why not buy a plastic model for 1/10th of the price?
I hope this gets to a higher up @ ACME & makes them think a bit.. you had the perfect margin between Auto-World & Highway 61nfor quality… Not any more.
Thank you,
Adam B.
PS: They have upped the quantity of these to at least 600… So apparently there “Limited Edition only stands for the cars if they don’t have a high demand…. Otherwise they just keep making them. Sort of takes away from the exclusiveness and not very honest. A example of the company’s priorities.
Wow.
