New Colour AUTOart McLaren P1 – Fire Black

Those that missed out on the original release of the AUTOart 1:18 McLaren P1 will have another opportunity to join in.  The latest colour is called Fire Black and combines Black paint and various carbon fibre bits.  We see zero improvements on the motor, which we called the weakest link from the original batch review.  Check out the REVIEWS link to read more!  This model will hit shelves sometime in January 2023.

I have the previous issue of this in blue. It’s a great looking model, especially with the entire rear end that lifts off to uncover the engine. However, the rear spoiler comes separately and is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to attach to the two struts that hold it in place (as someone noted in a previous review)! After I gave up after many tries, I finally decided to just glue it down in the closed position so the model wouldn’t look “naked” without it. Poor design of that part by AUTOart! I assume that the current black version that you show here is no different.

I have this model in matte black with the red accent and red interior. I didn’t think the spoiler was too difficult to attach. The model comes with thin metal rod that is bent into a specific shape. Each end of the rod can be inserted into two small holes underneath the model that pushes the spoiler mounts upward into the raised position. If you keep the rod inserted underneath the model it will hold the mechanism in place while you snap the spoiler in place.

I will second this comment. I also have the model and had zero issues mounting the rear wing. Everything functions and fits perfect.

I used the thin metal rod that you referred to (as specified in the instructions that came with the model) and still couldn’t get the spoiler to snap onto the struts that raise it. It sounds like you might be more dextrous than I am, but I was afraid to break the model!

So happy they finally released this one in black. The spec is quite close to the P1 I drove in Bahrain at the official launch so a must have for me :)
