We have some early grey-wear pre-production photos to share for the upcoming Stirling Scale 1:18 metal and opening Aston Martin V8 Vantage. What are your thoughts? Pricing is looking decent around $180 US. Pre-orders are available now. Stirling Scale has also updated their future production list, we like what we see!
Product# SC002
The shape is very poor, the proportions and some of the details are a long way off. No point having an interesting list of upcoming projects if you can’t get the basics right.
Please elaborate if possible. TIA.
Quite a few things jump out. The most obvious is that the roof is too low, which means that the angles of the windscreen and rear roof are both too shallow. The wheel arch shapes are wrong, both front and rear – they’re both elongated. I’m not convinced by the shape of the wing vents, but that could be because the arch shape is off.
Arch lips are a bit on the thick side (which will be more noticeable when painted) and the wheels look too tucked in to the arches. I suspect the rims are undersized too, but that’s harder to tell in greyware.
Looks like they did not agree that an openable trunk is a must?
If Stirling Scale wants to gain popularity and success, it would make sense to listen to collectors carefully.
Correct.
Hi all,
It’s Robert from Stirling Scale. Thanks for your comments.
This is only a first-shot sample. We are aware of the issues and are going to address them before the deco-sample.
Issues that will be fixed:
1. Roof line height and windscreen height/angle
2. Wheel axle width
3. Proportion of 16 inch Ronal wheels and tyre profile
4. Side Vent
5. Front bumper bar
6. Bonnet corner angles
7. The Exhausts will be changed the preferred straight-pipe version
The lines will look much better once the model is casted in metal, painted and lacquered.
Our model is significantly is more detailed and will be more accurate than the AUTOart model. You will struggle to get the AUTOart model for under $400.
The AUTOart model lacks headrests, ronal rims and straight-pipe exhausts and many other interior details. It also has an unaccurate roof line (like our prototype pictured above) – we will fix this.
I look forward to unveiling the improved and painted deco sample in December.
Thanks for the update!
Good to hear this, thank you for replying. I do wonder at the wisdom of sharing photos of a model that you know needs fixing though – hopefully the next version will look better and it won’t deter collectors. Looking forward to seeing photos of the corrected model.
