It’s been a dream for as long as I can remember — to finally set foot in the birthplace of the automobile. For me, cars have never just been machines. They’re a lifelong obsession. My very first car was a Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk3, and today, more than three decades later, I’m still loyal to Wolfsburg with a Golf R Mk8. In between, there were countless other Volkswagens and Audis — plus a local car show I co-founded that proudly celebrated these iconic brands. So, travelling to Germany wasn’t just a trip. It was a pilgrimage.
Germany delivers thrills on every level. From Berlin’s history and grit to Munich’s Bavarian charm, from Nürburg’s motorsport thunder to Stuttgart’s engineering soul, and of course, Wolfsburg — the automotive heartbeat of Volkswagen. The Autobahn lived up to its legend, the beer was as good as promised, and the people? Warm, welcoming, and just as passionate. One highlight was meeting Karsten in Lieser after years of friendship online. Sharing local foods, stories, and laughs in person was unforgettable. Karsten, thank you for the memories, and the invite to Canada is still wide open!
But let’s talk about the real fuel of the trip: the cars. Wolfsburg’s Autostadt is nothing short of paradise for enthusiasts. Imagine a futuristic playground where Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, SEAT, and Škoda all come together under multiple roofs. Sleek exhibits, immersive experiences, and enough eye candy to keep your camera snapping nonstop.
The crown jewel? The AutoTürme — twin glass towers standing like monuments to modern engineering. Each holds 400 cars, cycled through every three days, all linked to the factory by underground tunnels. Watching the robotic system at work is mesmerizing, but riding the storage-and-delivery mechanism yourself? That’s bucket-list stuff. Premium photo ops, premium adrenaline. Worth every cent.
Factory tours were another must. The Volkswagen tour is massive, a ride-along journey through the sprawling plant in EV shuttles. Impressive, yes. But the Porsche tour in Stuttgart? Next level. Walking the production floor, seeing each masterpiece come to life by hand — it’s intimate, intense, and unforgettable. Prestige aside, it’s the passion you feel there that makes the difference. (more on that in my next update.) Sorry, no photos to share, cameras are not permitted on the tours.
Then there’s the Volkswagen Museum, the crown of Wolfsburg. It’s a time capsule of design, engineering, and innovation, filled with legends from every era. I photographed every single car as it stood on September 21, 2025. The only absentee was a Lamborghini Murciélago, out on loan to a classic event. Its absence only proved the point: this collection isn’t static. It’s living history.
This journey wasn’t just a vacation. It was a reminder of why I fell in love with cars in the first place. Germany doesn’t just build automobiles — it builds passion, culture, and dreams that endure across generations. If you’re even thinking about making the trip, stop thinking. Go. Germany will change the way you see cars forever.

Thank you ever so much for dedicating some of your precious time on that trip and meet up with me for 8 hours in a not at all car-related, but very German place. That created a treasured memory for me.
These are lovely words and pictures of your experience at Autostadt and I am looking forward to the upcoming parts of your journal. You are an excellent ambassador for what my country has to offer for car enthusiasts.
Thanks, Karsten! The trip was a blast and then some!!
