Amalgam, If you can’t afford 1:8 Maybe 1:12?

Well, if you can’t afford the 1:8 scale version of the Ferrari Roma, how about the 1:12?  The latest from Amalgam is the 1:12 scale, Ferrari Roma.  The team claims 2000+ hours of development along with hundreds of hours of casting, fitting, and so on.  Priced at well north of $3000 US, the model is definitely beautiful, and the attention to detail on the tires is exceptional!  But, it is static and sealed.  Are you game?

For money that will buy 6 1/18 CMC, BBR or Almost Real AR+ ? No way!

I consider 1/12 a strange neither here nor there scale anyway:
1/8= individual centre piece, but not collection standard
    1/18= collection scale

The target group of these Amalgam-Ferraris is wealthy and does not neccessarily compare quality or prices. BBR offers 1:12 Ferraris for under 1K, Minichamps offers even 1:8 for 2K and does a good quality job. Still all sealed, so opening doors and leather seats with proper interior quality would be more fitting for that price range. 3-4K gets you a 1:12 CMC all open diecast that is finished in copper.

Amalgam offers both opened and sealed model cars, I have to add to my previous post.

Haha.Shouldn’t I buy CMC, exoto and Frontiart more appropriate?

Can i say with 99% probability that 99% of the audience of this site finds it difficult to afford a 1/1 supercar. So for people like us, it is super difficult to relate to the exact emotions of a wealthy hypercar owner when he/she says “I want an exact replica of my own car”. For that owner, budget may not be an issue, and i am guessing, that’s the niche Amalgam found. Amalgam is clearly not targeting the 1/18 collector like me who stash 20 to 70 models in the IKEA cabinet and cannot find or afford another square inch space to park the other Solido. So when I am trying to judge if Amalgam is doing it right or wrong, probably the folks at Amalgam are laughing. However also interesting that Amalgam is sharing the news with the audience like ours… in such a case, can we expect them to cater to our interest and budget in the future – may not be to the exact Solido customer like myself, but to the other group of collectors that are currently appreciating Exotos, CMCs or ARs. Can I be optimistic?

Very true. Being buying their models aren’t reading this and aren’t worried about the price either. But the question still remains, with a little education these individuals would agree they are grossly overcharged…

If I owned a supercar, I would consider buying an exact bespoke replica from Amalgam, even though not even Shmee does that, but has modifications of 1/18 models. But the above is not bespoke does not cater for owners of any real Ferrari, while being too expensive for ordinary people, utterly pointless.

Whether Solido or CMC, serious model collectors who have 100+ models pursue the hobby as a substitute for the real deal. The hypercar owner will most probably never have as many model cars as some of us. And one famous Australian youtube collector and reviewer sells his collection to get one hypercar.

Indeed Shmee has a 1/8, I believe, replica of his McLaren Senna by Amalgam with at least opening doors. It was rather funny when a couple of youtuber friends (Sam and Paul) dropped by at his “Shmuseum” work in progress and got a glimpse of that specific model but seemed to be quite oblivious as to what such a thing could possibly be worth. He kind of had a face like “Am I the only one that knows how exclusive and expensive this stuff is?” IT was quite funny.

i am guessing.. .and again, just a wild guess here. When a supercar owner decides to add a few “nicer” looking collectibles to beautify his/her space, may be the conversation with Amalgam will sound like, “what else do you have? – oh, nice, yeah a red one should look good. ok send me one of that”. Whereas my first question would be, so how much is the discount? and in the back of mind, i will probably be converting the amount i saw on Ck or DMW and that would… plus the shipping without the discount and……

I think it looks so cool and a Great model. As a mainly 1/12 collector i thought i would give my opinion on this and the other future amalgam 1/12 models. I have the first 1/12th they made jointly with MR, the LaFerrari for around £1000 so to now ask £2500 from what i have seen is a Huge jump in price. So i am saddened to see the jump in price but the collector in me says to eventually get this and the other ones that are available on pre order but i am not a wealthy collector so will be saving to eventually get these models after i get the ones i already have lined up to get. Maybe i look at collecting these models differently to a lot of other collectors but its my scale i like to collect and if that’s the price set and within reach ( after a lot of saving without the missus knowing) then i will be very tempted to press the buy button. Maybe i’m too addicted to these beauties too ?
