About the Green Monster Stage V Mitas… “The Green Monster Stage V – Mitas Edition is a sport tractor used in the Tractor Pulling Sport. It’s a unique piece built-in winter 2015 and provided with all the improvements that have been developed over the years since the team was founded in 1978 This tractor is already the fifth tractor to carry that name. As with all previous Green Monster tractors, V12 piston engines from Allison are used as a power source. These were installed in the American Lockheed P-38 Lightning and North American P-51 Mustang in World War II. The two engines installed on the tractor have 28 litres of displacement and four valves per cylinder each. They are mounted next to each other and each has the same direction of rotation. Compared to the engines originally used in the hunting bombers, the ones used on the Green Monster Stage V – Mitas Edition has been converted to an electronically controlled injection and ignition system. This system not only allows to make major changes to engine settings between two trains via computer but also to retrieve and evaluate a variety of stored values. Methanol is used as fuel instead of aviation gas. Methanol burns at lower temperatures and reduces the thermal load on the engines, thus avoiding another cooling system. The engines are supplied with air by compressors. The charging of the engines is a complete self-development, which pumps significantly more fresh air into the engines than the original loaders used. Power transmission is carried out via multi-disc centrifugal couplings, which become force-sensitive at about 1500 rpm. At full throttle, engines rotate up to 4500 rpm. Between the collective transmission, in which the power of the two engines is combined and the rear axle is fitted with only one forward and one reverse. The tractor was developed to start in the outdoor class 2,5 t. The tires that transfer the power to the ground are size 30.5-32 and were specially developed by Mitas for the Tractor Pulling Sport. At full throttle, the tires have a wheel speed of approx. 100 km / h.”
