BBR New 1:18 and 1:43 Ferraris

A couple of heavyweights from the Ferrari catalogue are making an appearance in scale from BBR.  The first is the 1:18 Ferrari 250 GTO Press Day, a limited production piece of 300.  In 1:43 a limited production run of the Ferrari 488 LM GTE PRO Team AF Corse 24H Le Mans 2020, #51 and #71 cars.  The last two should arrive in October 2021.

Here is a sarcastic question…. When is a “Limited Edition” NOT a limited edition? The answer is unfortunately when it is made by BBR. This company is known for constantly re-releasing models that were marketed and sold by them as “Limited Editions.” They have done this for very many years with most of their 1:43 and 1:18 models. The Press Day 250 GTO is the latest example of abusing the words limited edition and taking advantage of collectors. Models are listed as “Limited Edition” on their web site.

I bought two of this exact same model back in 2013 when it was first announced and produced, and falsely represented as a “Limited Edition” of 250 models, which they had shown as sold out. They kept offering these (and others) in later years, and now seeing this, well as a collector who bought their so-called limited edition models in good faith, it was infuriating to see this today. Part of my justification for buying more expensive models like these is that they are supposed to really be LIMITED as they are advertised to be!

Sold out from BBR only means until until they decide to make more again! This is probably why their archives of past – sold out editions on their site seem to be gone now to hide the facts. They used to just change their archives all the time….

It is a shame to have to write this, especially since their models are very nice, even with all the mistakes they often have. I am so disgusted now with their constant fake limited editions, and this is why I and some of my clients do not collect BBR models any more. I have six of their 1:18 models, which might be six too many!

It certainly appears that the only thing that is “limited” about BBR models is how many they can sell. There are previously published articles with information, photos, and dates published to prove these facts.

    Buyer beware!

No one is disputing this, it is quite well known amongst the vet collectors of both modern and classic editions. And it isn’t solely on BBR either… In the end, all it is is marketing. It should be a re-labelled limited production run with an asterisk.

Limited doesn’t fuel our team, it is the specimen or reproduction of. And some will say allowing a model back into for a second or third production period allows others who missed the initial buy to get one. In the end, patience is key and take limited production items or colours from ALL brands is not an inifinte end.

PS – There are many releases from BBR we haven’t featured. If the model # is found in the database it is not featured again. Well, that is what we try to do.

I suppose instead of limited edition of 300 units they should refer to it as a run of 300 units, which, to me, doesn’t seem to imply the fact that they will not produce another run later on.

I well understand and know about all of this. But knowing does not make it anymore acceptable, and for hand builts, BBR is the worst offender. I’ve been collecting since the late 1970s and manufacturing since the 1980s.
