There was NEVER a black 250 GTO. Many people look at photos of the very dark blue GTO, and mistakenly think very dark blue is black.
There NEVER was a real 250 GTO painted black.
They must be aware of that, it’s just that some people would like to have a black one. I’d rather have a more realistic model.
Btw, there are a few more samples on their website. Nick Mason’s only has two vents on each side, but I suppose it will have all three of them on the final model. I’d be shocked if it hasn’t.
Well, the CMC representative explained that Nick Mason’s GTO is reproduced according to the Le Mans 1962 specification, and indeed it did not have the three vents at the time yet. The third vent was sometimes cut out by the teams for extra cooling. Only the Series 2 GTO had three vents by default. So it is correct, and CMC seems to be doing a good job on the research.
Just reading Haynes’ 250 GTO Owners Manual, which contains a lot of interesting information about the car.
Well, there is now ;)
