As 2024 draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the highlights of the scale model world this year. While 2023 set an exceptionally higher bar, 2024 brought its own unique mix of challenges and triumphs.
From a delivery perspective, 2024 didn’t quite match the blazing momentum of 2023. Fewer releases and even fewer groundbreaking entries marked this year, leaving some collectors wondering: Is this a reflection of the broader global climate? It’s a likely possibility, with manufacturers adapting to shifts in production and demand.
Despite the slower pace, there were bright spots worth celebrating. One of the standout trends this year was the slight resurgence of diecast metal models with opening features—something collectors have been longing for. Did you notice the increase in such models hitting the shelves in 2024? Better yet, this wasn’t limited to budget-friendly offerings; even premium brands joined the movement.
MotorHelix, for instance, deserves applause for its craftsmanship and dedication. Two models, in particular, stood out: the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and the Honda S2000. Both earned their place in the DiecastSociety.com 2024 Model of the Year list, a testament to their exceptional quality. AUTOart, while not as prolific this year, secured two strong entries that solidified its reputation for excellence. Meanwhile, LCD Models came in with impressive force, earning two spots on the list and leaving us wondering if we should’ve included a couple more. Budget-conscious collectors weren’t left behind either. Brands like Bburago, Maisto, and Solido delivered solid entries, proving that affordability and quality can go hand in hand.
Finally, we extend our deepest gratitude to the incredible team behind the scenes. From detailed reviews to breaking model news, your dedication has been invaluable in making 2024 another memorable year for collectors. Here’s to celebrating the best of 2024—and looking forward to an even brighter 2025!
