Exoto New Lotus 25 F1 – Winner, Dutch Grand Prix Jim Clark (UPDATE)

**  UPDATE **  Added additional photos with the engine cover removed.  Somewhat disappointing based on what we know how detailed Exoto can deliver.  Thoughts?

They hinted at a new release back in October, and now this near-production example has been unveiled.  Best part, Exoto states this new, 1:18 diecast replica of the Lotus 25 F1 – Winner, Dutch Grand Prix Jim Clark World F1 Champion 1963 will be delivered in late December, early January 2022.  From what we gather the model features in addition to diecast metal features a removable engine cover, steering function and fully functional, raced tuned suspension.  Discuss…

#1 must be Belgian or South African GP

Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it. What’s the price going to be, $10,000? Tony will be glad to accept your preorder $$ now in five easy installment payments (45% interest added daily). It’s so sad, he could be at the absolute top of the model world right now if he just charged somewhat reasonable prices and was more honest in his dealings with his customers. Buyer beware. That being said, they produce the best in many cases.

Joe, you took the words right out of my mouth. Exoto’s products are terrific; their business practices are atrocious.

  3. SW says:

I honestly thought exoto were dead – I wouldn’t pre order anything though despite the December/January release date

  4. George K says:

My first Exoto was the Lotus 49, which was the first Exoto!
I still get a kick just looking at that.

  5. Migliori says:

I’m glad to see exoto’s new product, but I’m more looking forward to Ferrari’s model, such as 250lm.

If you wat to buy an Exoto model, buy it ONLY at ebay due the buyer protection policy. Never buy at Exoto.com because they are professional scammers.

  7. George K says:

While the engine was a simple affair, this looks way too basic. Exoto does such great engines normally, but this one is just not right. Certainly not for the expected premium price.

THAT is supposed to be an exoto model ?
    What a joke !
What a ripp off artist !
The level of detailling only in the 200 dollar/euro price range, at best I would think.
I wonder for how much they are going to try to sell this model 1000 dollar or more ?
I am already feeling sorry for the poor soules that are going to buy this model…..

  9. Marco says:

Not surprising at all. This is typical exoto: another example of poor taste, made for collectors with poor taste. I can clearly see two types of collectors with poor taste: 1- Those who collect supercars, and 2) those who collect racing cars. I respect those who are still waiting for a perfect replica of the Citroen DS or the Tatra T87.

  10. Craigj3534 says:

Could this be model be part of a new line with, comparatively, more friendly prices. I’m guessing that this was not made in the Dubai factory (is there still one?) but by a new subcontractor in China. No “furious” detail there, for sure!

BTW – the best deal out there is, again, in Exoto’s Black Friday sale: the bundle of 4 Lotus 49’s and 49B’s for $498, or less than $125 per model. That’s a very fair price for those models in today’s market.

  11. Mamao says:

Nice! And there is a 3rd group. Those who don’t have taste at all, other than criticize everything

Advice please gentlemen ,im thinking of pre ordering the ferria sharknose 1.10 scale when its going into production i dont know ,but i know it will be a great model.

do i pre order or wait till its on the shelves.

KN – do NOT pre-order from Exoto. If you look through the comments posted above here you can see there is plenty of evidence that’s akin to pouring gasoline on your cash and lighting it on fire.

That model – and nearly every other model on the Exoto website labeled “Future” – has been advertised there for YEARS and likely won’t be released in any of our lifetimes. And if you want to pay the price of a used car for that, get the Amalgam version. It will cost three times as much (in 1/8th scale, so bigger too) but you won’t get ripped off and it has almost as much detail.

  13. Nigel Eden says:

I’ve been buying Exoto for 25 years. While the xs range are faultless the prices have sadly escalated beyond the reach of most. I guess models of this quality do not come cheap. I have spoken to Tony on several occasions over the years and he is charming and friendly and explained about the massive investment requirements for tooling. It scared me. In the past I always purchased directly from Exoto, but now use the eBay site and direct from website, My only problems have been that parts can arrive detached which becomes a pain on the XS versions when trying to work out where a nut or a piece of wire goes.
Some times the proper thing to do is to work with the manufacturer who sent me detailed photos to help.
