FIRST LOOK: Bburago Race & Play 1:18 Ferrari SF 90 Stradale

Budget-friendly brand Bburago is showing off an early 2022 entry with their version the the 1:18 Ferrari SF 90 Stradale in Red.  Full access and decent details are part of the package, though the generic interior and classic dog-leg hinges are front and centre!  What will a Signature series improve on?  Likely little, and this still leaves a big gap for Ferrari fans that want more without opting to hand over this month’s mortgage payment.  Lovely effort Bburago, but as the DiecastSociety.com poll suggests, fans want more, about 92% from just over 5100 votes.

    The signature series would maybe add side windows…a better
    paint job…dress up the interior a little…but those dog legs will
    still be there

    When I was a child Bburago was indeed a brand of toy cars. They’re just true to their roots. I’m just not interested in this kind of stuff.

    At present, there are almost no excellent Ferrari models(diecast). Except for the appearance, other aspects of BBR products are far inferior to the previous level.

    Does anyone know when Bburago’s contract with Ferrari expires? It can’t come soon enough in my opinion. How I long for another manufacturer to take over and do the Ferrari marque some honour in producing quality scale models at an affordable price point….a manufacturer like Norev would fit the bill perfectly.

      I am eager for other model brands to obtain Ferrari license. They will certainly be better than Bburago, because Bburago’s products are the worst.

    Oh dear..another toy masquerading as a collector’s model from Bburago. I, like 92% of the people who voted on your DCS poll am baffled as to:

    1. Why on earth were Bburago awarded the Ferrari licence in the first place when there are many other more competent manufacturers that can do a far, far better job.
    2. Why on earth they still have the Ferrari licence?
    3. When are they going to lose the licence or when will it expire?

    Good riddance is all I say…can’t come soon enough!

    Please, please, please Ferrari for the love of all things die cast, give the licence to another manufacturer so we as collectors can enjoy collecting Ferrari scale models…again! Since Bburago have been producing these cheap toys I have not purchased a single model of their’s, and I do not intend to either. God I miss the Hot Wheels Elite days, there was a company who grabbed the licence by the scruff of the neck and produced a fabulous portfolio of Ferrari models albeit at a good price point…how difficult can it be…for Bburago it seems…very difficult indeed.

    Bburago being Italian there’s a high chance they will renew the contract with Ferrari.
    Don’t really think any of the existing diecast model makers would be interested in spending a fortune on the licence.
    Wish HWE would consider coming back to the hobby.

      Because Bburago is now a Hong Kong brand, the quality is very poor.Don’t have any hope for Bburago.

      The Italians gave up the fight long time, and don’t hold your breath in ever seeing HWE ever again. Those we would love the Signature series from Bburago evolve to a standard just as good as HWE was.

        Bburago only has experience in making toys. They have no experience in models. They can only wait for Bburago to lose its Ferrari license and have no other choice.

    I think we’re being a bit hard on the oldest manufacturer of models in 1/18 scale, who could be credited with starting the hobby in the first place. There’s nothing wrong with this model at the price point it is being offered. Bburago is a budget model maker. The problem is with Ferrari for their licencing strategy, not Bburago..

      I am not sure what I am looking at. I liked their effort with 488 GTB, that one looks great in Grey, and I have 7 of the FXX-K/Evo’s, but this one looks very clumsy, maybe its just photos.

      We wouldn’t go as far as giving them credit with starting the hobby. There are many other brands before, Matchbox, Hot Wheels and Schuco for some. Yes, budget is true, so why can’t the Signature series evolve to something more?

      Yes, many people do, that is great! But what is available for fans that want that little bit more? Their Signature series is a start, but nowhere near the refinement that true collector values.

        The Signature Series models are BARELY an improvement on the Race and Play series, but not only that, at the rate that Bburago release new models, most collectors would be dead from old age by the time they filled one shelf in their display cabinet with them. How many Signature Series Ferraris have they released since they got the license years ago? 6, maybe 7? 488GTB, California T, FXX-K, FXX-K EVO, 458 Speciale and SP1. That’s about it. 6 models. Like I said, what a complete waste of a license for possibly the most iconic marque in the hobby. Yes, I get that Bburago are also Italian, and I get that Ferrari want cheaper models to be available to kids too because they can aspire to one day owning the real thing, but the same applies to collectors. Bburago cover the bottom end of the market and BBR to top end. We need Ferrari to offer the license to someone in the middle because lets face it, Bburago doesn’t meet the needs of collectors (and perhaps don’t aim to) and BBR is either out of reach price wise or many collectors simply don’t want sealed resin models so there’s definitely a BIG segment in the middle of the market whose needs aren’t being met and it would be a decent earner for Ferrari and a company who could make decent models at a reasonable price point (Norev being one company mentioned already). A “no-brainer” one might say.

          In the past, kyosho’s Ferrari license came from Hot wheels. In fact, Bburago can also produce products of about $200, but they did not do so because they are not hot wheels. hot wheels has a model culture for decades. After Bburago was acquired by a Hong Kong company, it lost the possibility of making models.

    Seeing that Bburago are a hot topic, especially when it comes to the Ferrari licence, could you please update your poll to a selection of manufacturers that people would love to see replace Bburago.
