GreenLight Collectibles Acquires Highway 61

Well this is good news for collectors of the classic and modern Americana automobiles.  The GreenLight company acquires access to Highway 61 effective immediately, this means re-release of some real classic gems.  There is a total of 52 1:18 models in the works, I’m sure some will see light very soon.  GreenLight promises some new models too, some details maybe available as early as the Germany Toy Fair next month!  We’re excited to see what’s in development!  Read the complete press release below.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (January 3, 2017) – GreenLight Collectibles, a premier manufacturer and marketer of authentic die-cast vehicle replicas, scale figures and remote control cars, is excited to announce the acquisition of Highway 61 Collectibles, a premier manufacturer of 1:18 scale die-cast model cars based in Dubuque, Iowa. The acquisition is effective immediately. The Highway 61 acquisition represents the fourth marketplace move in recent years by GreenLight after the acquisition of First Response Replicas in July 2016, the relaunch of Precision Miniatures under the Precision Collection re-brand in January 2016 and the GMP relaunch in May 2014.

“When approached with the opportunity to acquire the Highway 61 Collectibles brand and mold families in early 2016, we were excited to engage in an immediate discussion and negotiation”, said Russell Hughes, GreenLight Collectibles President. “Highway 61 developed market leading, highly detailed 1:18 scale molds from 2002 until 2012, and those molds need to be available to collectors in 2017 and beyond. We’ll do our best to relaunch Highway 61 with our vault of highly sought-after licenses and will utilize our design creativity to introduce some new concepts that have never been seen in high-end 1:18 scale model car offerings”.

“I am extremely happy to announce the complete sale of all Highway 61 1:18 scale tools, along with all property and assets related to those tools and the product line”, said Fred Ertl III, founder of Highway 61. “Die-Cast Promotions discontinued the production of these vehicles for internal reasons and it is great to see that GreenLight Collectibles will be soon be reviving these great automobile die-cast model replicas. It is a fantastic line and I am certain collectors will be excited to see some new releases through the GreenLight outlets.”

This is just awesome ! And now, when we know that future Hi61 tooled Trans-Am Cuda and Challenger which are in preparation, will be done under Greenlight label, what about some new tooling as well, like for 1971 AMC Javelin ? Civil and Trans-Am version ? Ok, just dreaming… :-)

  2. Stan says:

Good news, but no Kaiser Manhatten, which Highway 61 offered in several colors and trim. Wonder what happened to it?

    • Robert says:

That model might have been left out unintentionally as the list was quite messed up when it first appeared on the Greenlight site. Many cars were named twice in the list. Even the Saturn L300 is on the list. Don’t sweat, if they still have the tooling they’ll make it.

Greenlight has been on a roll for the last few years! Resurrecting GMP and now Highway 61… The classic and muscle car collectors will be well served with great quality models!
