Quite a popular car in Russia. I imagine lots of Russian dads will be getting them as gifts. Awful car though, was in one when it broke down during a 2-hour drive and effectively cancelled our trip.
For many Russians this particular model holds a special place in the heart. It was much much better than anything made prior (when it was released) in Russia.
This is one of those cars that will remind many the struggles during communist and post-communist times in Eastern Europe. It will remind many of childhood, where you had to wait in a long line at a gas station hoping to get 10 liters of gas, or at a grocery store waiting half a day for meat to arrive, and where owning any car was a luxury and Lada was a realistic dream. I think model cars of Lada, Trabant, Wartburg or Fiat 126p are great examples of that time and will be sentimental purchases.
