Kyosho New 1:12 Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Series II

News from Kyosho’s camp is the new 2015 Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Series II.  This 1:12 scale majestic piece will definitely have shelf presence.  Kyosho does promise a new standard in precision and extended detail, and from what we gather form the photos it sure makes us a believer.  They even added the luxury of a luggage set and picnic basket complete with an opening carry case, plates, cutlery, and wine glasses.  Nice!  Model is expected in Q1 2015, and it won’t come cheap, suggested retail is $999US.

About the Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Series II…  “The 2015 Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Series II is the latest in the most iconic line of luxury cars the world has known. From a manufacturer whose name invokes images of unlimited luxury, this new Phantom Drophead happily and easily carries the luxury torch for the legendary Rolls Royce brand. The massive 2015 Drophead features a 6.7L V12 engine that produces a respectful 453 horsepower. In the Drophead Coupe, perhaps it will be less noticed, given the overall length just shy of 18.5 feet and a sumo-like 6000 lb. weight. It’s a commanding presence by any standard.”

Hm, when I compare the pictures to the 1/18 version reviewed on Diecast.com previously, I cannot see any “new standard in precision” and “extended detail” over the 1/18 other than the opening glove box, the (impressive) folding cloth roof and the addition of luggage. The wood veneer patterns seem to be the same as on the 1/18, but a bit more credible on this larger scale. However, the lower part of the boot lid still does not fold level to the ground and the passenger seat splits along the mold line.

The thing looks stunning! too rich for my blood though. I am curious though, is the does the fabric top actually function (go up and down) from under the tonneau cover? If so, WOW!!!!
