No one should ever get tired of looking at the classic Shelby Cobra 427S/C. If you choose, Kyosho is back with another 1:18 scale colour, this one is noted as Chrome with Silver decal work. Due to the delicate nature of the finish, Kyosho is limiting production to 100 units, yes 100. First come first served! Suggested retail $599 US.

I paid $250 in 1993 for the original release of this model in metallic blue. Now, Kyosho wants $600 for a “chrome” version. My, my, how this hobby has changed.
It’s rare! ;)
For me, the outrageous price is a punch in the face of all loyal customers of Kyosho!
SIX HUNDRED? With a regular one selling for ~200 and still not worth that much? Insane.
Not necessarily agreeing with the crazy price, but to put things in perspective, why don’t you guys go to your local chrome plating shop and ask them how much would it cost to chrome plate one of your die cast models. Take a Bburago, disassemble it and bring them the parts. See what they would say. Keep in mind that in ’96 I had the choice of buying one of three Ferraris 308 GTS in 1:1 for $26K. One of them was red and demanded a $2K premium because of the color combo. And that was in Chicago, where at the time gas was about 90 cents. So if Someone paid $250 for the model in 1993, I really don’t understand the logic of the same model in much more expensive finish to be anything less than double the price 30 years later. I literally now make per hour what I used to make per day back then. In 1993 making $100K per year was some sort of great achievement and you were considered rich. Nowadays it’s a regular pay for a decent job. It’s just how times change.
Having said all that, I still think the price is high.
