Norev showed their prototype at the toy fare, so just be patient.

Unless a (good) opening alternative never arrives, the resin market is for the impatient.

    • Alex says:

Resin models are for demanding collectors. they are more precise and age much better than metal models… Open models are more of interest to young collectors who see their models as toys, others see their models as works of art ;)

Wow, you must be blind. People are mentioning the acetate-style glass parts but what about the panel gaps? Most of the resins look like toys as you can clearly see the paint in the shallow gaps.

The reality, as I see it, is about some kind of weird “elitism”. If resin models were cheaper than fully opening diecasts the story would be the opposite. Expensive resins are expensive because they are limited. They are artificially expensive, and some people like to feel special or unique this way.

I’ve had hundreds of resins, monstly from OTTO, who make great models for the price they charge. I’m not against resins, I’m against absurdly limited toy looking models and, of course, the people who blindly buy them!

I think that “Norev” very soon will release a decent “cast” opener and for quite affordable money. “GT-3” and “Touring” are made, in my opinion, quite decently. So, let’s wait.

    • Porsche993 says:

I agree with this assessment. I never liked the acetate film most resin model makers use on their models which look wavy under certain lighting conditions. Why spend a lot of money on a model that doesn’t open and have flimsy windows?

  3. Aston says:

It seems to me that Alex’s point of view is very wrong. Very “beautiful”, but sealed, the model can be called a sculpture, not a model. The model, in my understanding, should reflect not only the external gloss, but also the internal structure, and this property is not available for models without access.
Who among us would dare to call CMC models a toy for beginner young collectors, and a Minichamps “rubber” blank a work of art for discerning collectors? Although…
