REVIEW: Automodello 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado

When it comes to unique specimens and one-off models one would need to include Automodello in the conversation.  One of their latest efforts is the signature 1:24 scale of the 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado.  Can some say pimp my ride candidate?  In all seriousness, the 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado was a premier and stately automobile of the period, style and tech were paramount with the Cadillac name.  Our example is finished in an exterior colour called Topaz Gold Firemist and aligns with their Tribute Edition series, which is a limited-edition piece of only 68.  There are other colours of the Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado to choose from.  They’re extensive 1:24 assortment is impressive too if interested start your search HERE.

Let’s take a closer look at the model itself.  As mentioned, the exterior is completed in OEM Topaz Gold Firemist.  Paint application is top-notch as the photos will illustrate.  As for defining the overall appearance, Automodello does an excellent job of capturing the long front sweeping hood and various styling cues throughout.  One area is the incorporation of the rear fenders with the roofline.  Well done!

We need to mention the packaging too.  And we likely have in prior reviews…  Automodello’s services this piece well, it is a truly wonderful presentation, just as rich as the finished model.  The example is attached to the base which sits safely inside a jewel of a box with up sweeping lid.

Continuing with the exterior, one can see the Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado is loaded with a plethora of chrome parts and accent bits.  Attempting this in scale isn’t an easy achievement.  Propose 1:24 scale and the challenges are considerably more.  For the most part, the execution is superb.  Where the model showed some challenges was the lower trim section.  Here the chrome is completed with a very thin, almost gold-leaf like material.  Seems the adhesion process wasn’t 100% with our example in some areas.  Thankfully the remedy was simple and quick, with the use of your index finger or thumb, one can get the trim back into spec without damage.

With our new macro lens, we can amplify much of the detail on this model.  Starting at the front the massive bumper and grille featuring hideaway headlights are tastefully executed.  Note the fully detailed photo-etched emblems too.

Front corner lights and side markers are executed with quality materials.  As you move back along the massive front hood note the integrated turn signal on each side.

The rear of the Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado is just good!  All the attention to design and materials is once again top-notch.  Attractive chrome work along with fit and finish complete the large rear bumper.  Taillights are truly class pieces with side markers found too.   Automodello doesn’t leave any component to the imagination.

Whitewall tires adore the otter side of the wheels.  The classic hub-cap design is exquisitely achieved by the team as the photos will reveal.  Not much is going on in terms of the suspension and braking apparatus behind.  With this type of wheel design and appliable scale, it really isn’t all that necessary.

Moving to the interior side, one may notice the Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado doesn’t ship with the driver’s side window in the closed position.  Some may agree or disagree with this choice.  For us, under review, it provides a sharper picture of the interior.  And let us tell you it sparkles just as well as the exterior!  A fully carpeted interior is found throughout.  Dash and related elements are nicely produced, the aided chrome bits surely elevate the overall look.  Even the door cards receive the required attention, as they should at this price point.

What we admire about Automodello most is they stick to the plan.  Offer up unique one-off pieces, provide exceptional detail and fill a void within a niche marque or brand.  The 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado is definitely up to the task, another great example of from the team.  There isn’t much to complain about here, however, this level of detail and low production does come at a price, about $349.95 US with shipping for the Tribute Edition.  There is the alternative colour Silverpine Green at $249.95 US.   We’ll have more from the Automodello in the coming weeks.  Enjoy the pics!

For the price, one would expect that “all” aspects of the model to be true. They completely missed the mark using a rear wheel drive chassis plate on a world known “front wheel drive” car. How many more Automodello examples have incorrect chassis?
