Solido 2021 News Exclusive!

With the global pandemic still a large part of daily life, the annual German Toy Fair that usually kicks off the new year is postponed.  Social distancing aside, technology has come to our aid.  We met with Product Manager, Clement Rouviere from Solido earlier today.  And their outlook for 2021 is even more promising than 2020 believe it or not.  (Solido currently has two models list on the final DiecastSociety.com Model of the Year poll).  The assortment of new models includes both street and race, all of which are 1:18 scale.  Did we mention, there’s a possibility of them vying for the Ferrari licence?  At this pace, they are the perfect candidate for the job!

We’re happy to announce more than 80 new models will arrive in 2021.  A list of 63 models is shared below, 31 of which are entirely NEW!  The first is scheduled to arrive later this month, it’s the 1:18 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 in Racing Red and Oxford White.  The plan for Solido is to release 1-2 new models per month with possibly more in the mix.  Some notable marques include Ford, Dodge, Fiat, BMW, Alpine, Volkswagen, Nissan, and McLaren.  Items highlighted in RED are confirmed as NEW TOOLING.

The team is also working on a new line of models, tentatively called Solido Premier, the call to action here is full access replicas, diecast metal, elevated detail inside and out.  The minimum standard is that of parent brand GT Spirt in terms of paint, fit and finish. There will be a mix of 1:12 and 1:18 scale.  The first trial samples proved less than perfect, more training and tooling is in the works, though COVID19 is proving challenging here.  Hopefully, production standards will exceed Solido’s plan soon enough.  So, we’re likely to see the first production examples in 2022.

The video will highlight some of the newnesses for 2021, some painted and some not, that’s how fresh this assortment is!  The intro will show Solido’s office environment and then transition into the Soldio model line which includes the core assortment of 1:18 scale models, we also highlight the new truck business, note these are 1:24 scale. Their Military series (War Masters) is getting a facelift too.  This is a niche business, this series production is around 1000, compared to the 1:18 that is usually 10,000 units.  And finally, the video concludes with their classic 100 Series.  Please forgive the half screen video, we didn’t want to show you our lead’s mug for the full 12-minutes.  Thank you Clement and extended Solido team for the opportunity, keep safe, and happy collecting!

  1. JIMMY says:

First of all, hats off to Solido for giving us another choice when it comes to budget models. Budget models ($50-$75 USD or so) have been relegated to about 2-4 brands that produce 0-5 new molds every year, at most, for the past decade or so, so just having another option at a similar price point is really something to look forward to in itself. Look forward to comparing that GT500 to my maisto one!

Secondly, I hope that Challenger is not sealed.. but by what I saw in the video, it looks to be the case :(

  2. bigbluesd says:

What is meant by GT500 “Fast Track”? It doesn’t appear to be an option package or a special model that I can tell… what does that mean?

  3. Karsten says:

Wow, what a display! Indistinguishable from the showroom of a real car dealership with those real cars in it. I´m not really a budget (or ralley car) collector, but it´s definetely good to see that the hobby does not literally become exclusive, but will remain affordable for people who don´t have a 50.000€ plus annual income and thousands to spend on their hobby.

And there are a couple of things even seasoned collectors can be interested in: I´ll definitely keep the S1804201 – ALPINE A110 1600S – BLEU ALPINE 1969 in my cross-hairs. In contrast to the Norev it is not sealed. And the Kyoshos weren´t street-going versions. I do feel tempted.

Oh yes, and it seems like they´ve got an MN Trailer on display, too. There is definentely a trend towards trucks and trailers. Will Solido offer 1/18 trucks? They are not on the list?!

  4. Christian KLEINBERG says:

I’m from France and I am really pleased to see the constant improvement and “rebirth” of the Solido brand. I never bought any Solido models before, they were no up to my desired standards, and this year I ended up buying 4 of them! There are still some nasty angles I dont wan’t to see in these models, still, what a bargain I could not let go…. Well done! After all, what counts is the number of units sold!!! On one side I am happy because I will be able to buy some very cheap models, but on the other hand, I kind of don’t like very much that they get so much inspiration from their own models from Otto and GT-Spirit, even in color. What is clear is that they are chasing Norev and their latest really upgragded models, like all the classic Mercedes series with full openings. Once again, very pleased to see them growing and improving!

  5. Anthony White says:

I look forward for the Shelby GT500,Nissan GTR,McLaren 600lt and Dodge Challenger….hopefully people don’t raise the price with selling on Ebay

  6. Alpinehuub says:

I am very pleased to see the healthy rebirth over te last years of Solido, and the very nice models that they already did make. This 2021 news is also great. Nice to see that they are doing the good old Alpine A110. Solido had ‘in his old days’ a very nice A110 in 1:18 scale with opening doors and hood (introduced in 2006). Unfortunately that nice mould has disappeared during the bankruptcy procedure… Other moulds, as there were the R12 Gordini, were bought by Norev.Applause SOLIDO for this nice 2021 program!!
