THIS THING IS MASSIVE!

Amalgam entertains the notion that bigger is better, and we must agree!  The team has just completed their version of the 1:4 scale, yes 1:4 Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance – 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix, driver Lewis Hamilton.  The results do speak for themselves!  The replica measures an astonishing 49 inches or about 1.29 metres.  Just pull out your tape measure to get some perspective folks.  Only 7 pieces with be hand-crafted in scale.  Amalgam has future plans for 1:4 Valtteri Bottas and George Russell editions, these will be limited to 5 pieces.  Price is just as grand, north of $35,000 US.

Can’t think of anyone who would buy this one. The joy of a model is that it fits on your palm and contains opening doors and engine hoods, both of which this model lacks. And at that price too…

Believe there is a market for these… There is a whole alternative world we common folk don’t really know or will ever get the chance to experience!

Exactly as the DS Team has written. There is most definitely a whole other, and completely different world of individuals and collectors who buy models like this, as well as ones that are even much more expensive. Completely different markets.

Which doesn’t necessarily mean that world is better. I have an Amalgam 1/18 which costs 1,000 dollars in the Amalgam website and between 1200 and 1500 on ebay; believe me: it is NOT better than any BBR resin model, and it is also inferior to any 1/18 CMC model. I don’t regret buying it because it is a beautiful piece. It is just way overpriced. Of course, I don’t have the means to buy an Amalgam 1/8, but the CMCs are almost the same quality, only smaller. And as someone says, the pleasure of a miniature is that it fits in your hand. A 1/8 model is not a miniature anymore. It is a monster.

No one is saying either side is better. This is reality. Enjoy the model for what it is. Money does grow on trees for some people LOL. With their 1:18 platform Amalgam is doing is expanding the brand. It doesn’t necessarily mean its better than any other brand. It is definitely over priced for what the product offers, but their customers don’t look at price, and aren’t significant model collectors either.

At that size and price, it better be able to start up and race down the road!
