TOP Marques New Release, Open and Closed

Two projects from TOP Marques are in the works, one near completion and the other still in grey-wear form.  We’ll start with the 1:18, open series, yes open!  The Ferrari SWB 250 GTO is nearing release, the team presents their painted sample.  Access to the interior, and motor are granted.  TOP Marques claims the material is resin.  Is this the evolution of resin?  Maybe.  Based on initial images the model doesn’t look too shabby, though we would have preferred they went the extra mile and continued access to the rear.  Folks, what are your thoughts?

We did mention a second project.  Seems the team has fancied the 1:12 Porsche 935/78, nicknamed “Moby Dick”.  We present the model in early grey-wear.  As you can see this one is leaning to their sealed resin series.  Enjoy!

For me, it more seems to be a Kremer K3 in 1/12.

You might be right. They are so closed minded on the release details. Always seems they are hiding something…

Agree, this is definitely a K3, the Moby Dick is completely different. I don’t understand sealed models in 1/12. Surely the whole point is that you’re making it bigger so you can add details and you’re not as constrained on price?

Hard to beat the CMC version, except maybe the wheel spokes.

  3. MLB says:

Nice that they are making the attempt to produce 1:18 models with opening panels, BUT…. the model still suffers from inaccuracy and poor detail. The CMC models were not perfect, but they are still far better in very many ways.

The 935 K3 is very disappointing.. It is FAR LESS DETAILED than the Carousel 1 / TSM 935 / 935 K3 that is now 20 years old…… The rear fender “closed” air intake is early 1980’s die-cast technique….. no reason to buy this “doorstop”!!

Personally, I don’t mind sealed cars because I don’t open mine much and I like that there are no panel gaps. That being said, I have had a few issues with the windows on the resin cars being wavy or not seated right. Also, to me, it seems the prices of all models are going way up (to absurd levels) but quality control is going down. I getting to the point where this hobby is just going to be too expensive for me to continue, especially when every time I order a car I hold my breath and hope it comes with no blemishes or other problems. I don’t own any Top Marques cars, but I was interested in the Jag XJ220 until I read some bad reviews. A model well over $200 should be almost perfect, so I am very leery about their products especially when I think the prices are ridiculous.

One of our team members mirrored your words on the XJ220. Passed on it and kept his Maisto piece.
