A slew of new material will be upcoming from Solido this month. Some friends are old and some now dressed in new colours. For example, their Ford GT40 MK1 is back, newly painted exterior in a lovely British Racing Green-like finish. This one is noted as the Jim Click Ford Performance 1966 – built the same year Ford scored its hat-trick at the Le Mans 24 Hours. More on the Mustang front, we welcome the Ford Shelby GT500 Fast Track – White with Blue Stripes and Ford GT500 Fast Track in Racing Red. All models featured here are diecast metal and 1:18 scale. Enjoy!

GT500 LOOKS SUSPICIOUSLY MAISTO-ISH
Yes, although the Maisto lets you open the hood and trunk :)
On a different note, I’m just happy that Solido is has decided to give us opening doors and budget models for this hobby which has moved far and away from budget models.
That in itself is worth celebrating because it is apparently too hard these days to ask for a model that is Diecast, Costs ~$50, and gives you access to the interior with opening doors.
It is unfortunate that probably 60-70% of this market has decided they are mind-readers and see exactly what we collectors want and that we only deserve resin models because all of us are apparently dying for resin models.
So rather than take the approach that others have taken, Solido has decided to give us at least two opening doors. Now, it would be wonderful for them to give us more than just that, but the fact that they actually do offer that means that they are better than the 60-70% who have decided the impose resin models on us. I think I’m going to go buy a couple of Solido models not because they are the best, but just so they could get my money and not any of the resin companies.
Not sure if anyone noticed…, our 2021 official interview with Solido promises a new “Premier” Series – 2022.. Details below.
“The team is also working on a new line of models, tentatively called Solido Premier, the call to action here is full access replicas, diecast metal, elevated detail inside and out. The minimum standard is that of parent brand GT Spirt in terms of paint, fit and finish. There will be a mix of 1:12 and 1:18 scale.”
That sounds promising. I’d be glad to eat crow if something like that were to come into play. There are definitely models that GT Spirit already has licenses to that are unique and would be great additions that are currently not on the 1:18 market with regards to models with openings. Hoping for the best, although not willing to hold my breath just yet.
I don’t think it’s too much to ask for if these resin companies (too many to name, which is the sad state of 1:18 collectibles today) just had 2 opening doors like Solido does.
Solido are bringing back some of their older models, many of which were full access.
I don’t know if these will cost more, or be marketed as the ‘Premier’ range.
It would seem they are repairing and upgrading the tooling for some of these older models, an example of the full open selection is the Peugeot 205T16 rally car.
That red GT500, the mirrors fitment seen from the front… 🤦🤦
I wonder if those are like those bendable/stretchable Maisto mirrors.. if they are, they are plastic but almost as bendable as rubber!
It looks terrible, but I will say it works very well because it means your car won’t be broken even if a 5 year old broke into your collection and started playing with it!
