First Look: Maisto Exclusive S.E. Ford GT

The model graces the cover of their 2016 catalog, which definitely has created some buzz.  Maisto will release the 1:18 Exclusive Special Edition Ford GT.  What makes the model more desirable is the fact that it’s made of metal and features a host of opening bits, which is more traditional that the current resin theme.  The models presented here are in the early pre-production stage.  In fact, Ford has yet to sign-off on the current example.  Two colours are scheduled for 2016, Liquid Blue and Silver.  Maisto says more tweaks are coming.  Now if they can work on the panel gaps, maybe lower her a tad, and ensure the interior looks more realistic than plastic, they will have a winner!

This or a confounded resin one? THIS!

  2. Anto_clr says:

That’s insane!! I really wait for it but when will it be release ? That’s the real question.

    • John says:

Estimated for release in either September or October according to my pre-order thru 3000toys.com. YRMV.

  3. George Kages says:

That looks like a 1/43 scale model.

    • spikyone says:

Agree – one of those old-school 1/43 toys that don’t even come in a proper box. I don’t understand the posters that would rather have a clumsy, poorly-executed opening diecast like this than a sharp, well-finished but sealed resin. Yeah, it’s a pre-production, but it has bad paint, bad panel gaps, crude shutlines, and the CF is abysmal. The Top Speed looks a hundred times nicer.

  4. Zoc says:

Same old Maisto quality, nothing changed. I know its a pre-production sample, but i doubt that there will more bits than this.

    • JS Coleman says:

Not true. I have about 50 Maisto models, old ones right up to new ones, and I will say this: they are on the up and up. Their new Premiere Edition Mercedes-AMG GT is incredibly refined and detailed for its price point, and is a far cry from the days of huge doglegs and black-chipped chrome.

Contrary to what you say, it isn’t ‘same old’ Maisto quality.

      • Zoc says:

Ok, maybe except the AMG GT, everything else look and feel like toys, in terms of execution and quality in that price range. Even Bburago is better with its new models, including the Ferrari line.
I remember times, about 20 years ago, Maisto was much better than this, wide range of desirable models, with unmatched quality and details. I still keep them in my collection.

        • JS Coleman says:

Hang on. “Everything else looks like toys” – because they are still using some of the old moulds, which in the case of the SLS AMG or the 300S, is bad. And the Bburago Ferraris look better because they are part of the upmarket Signature series, with prices far above the standard range of Maistos.

But this Ford GT is an all-new mould in an all-new and upmarket series. Not “same old Maisto” in tooling, so we’ll see if it’s “same old Maisto” in finish.

I think some people see the name “Maisto” and therefore “toy” is the word that spills out subconsciously when commenting.

          • Zoc says:

            Ok, that’s your opinion.
BUT, why would i buy an 1/18 Exclusive Corvette Stingray or Mustang GT, etc for 50-60 EUR, when i can get some Norev models for the same price ?? Also, for their Special edition series, for that price range you can buy Welly models, still better details and execution.
Another thing that bothers me is that some of the Maisto models are off scale.
I ain’t got nothing against you buying Maisto models, it’s just different looking and understanding things. Thats all.

  5. Yuri says:

It’s just awful – looks like a toy.

  6. EDIB says:

they are definitely getting better, but could you imagine if AA made this beast.

    • ROCHESTER says:

Yeah…if AA made this the price would be well over $150………you need to remember that not everyone has a burning desire to have ‘the best’ model of the XYZ-mobile in their collection. And, as has been written above, Maisto are improving. They came under new leadership about 2 years back, and the new tools are better than what they had before. It always takes time for this QC change to show up.You don’t simply toss everything you bought……you create new tools as you go forward, so it is here.

  7. Mikestroh says:

    Thumbs down…..Looks terrible. Next!!!!!

  8. Robert says:

I agree with some comments that Maisto makes an effort to up their game with each release, thye did a pretty nice job of the Corvette and the latest Camaro. Paint is better, details are getting more refined. At 30$ a pop, I don’t expect much more than a toy. But since they seem to have good ties with manufacturers and come to market first with many new cars, it would be nice if they had an upgraded line with sigificant refinements, ie, better door hinges, more realistic brake details, more underhood details, better plastics in the interior and some kind of carpeting inside. Sort of in a Highway 61 level of detailing and finish but with modern products.

  9. Stephane Demers says:

Well good or bad news : Autoart will be making it!!!! Expect a high price and a lackluster engine XD
