More classic Ferrari from Amalgam is featured in the Ferrari 288 GTO in 1:18 scale. This specimen is resin and sealed. Though more accurate than the aged, budget-friendly Hot Wheels/Hot Wheels Elite efforts the price here is north of $1100 US. Inflation has surely touched the wealthy too.

I can not believe what I see and read. Form is too low, line of the roof is not equal to real car, front lights are too big, direction light just painted, not separate clear parts, and it is resin-statue. And with wrong shape! No opening parts, no engine details, no special fabrics and metal parts? All of this for $1100. Really? And it is another resin 288GTO…
And people says that CMC it too expensive? What happens too this market of models?
Your’e totally right! And for a third of the price I have the BBR which correct in the form and equally detailed…
I must say that i never seen model that still in production that get each year more
expansive. i bought this model in the first batch many years ago and the price was more than BBR or LookSmart at the time, but it wasn’t even close to what they ask now for it. these photos from the first prototype and not from the final model which is better than BBR i had their model before that. one thing that i didn’t understand is if their models is limited or not since they keep make them..
It look good i’l give it that, but how can you justify $1100 for a block of resin with no opening parts?
Why do all these model companies struggle to make a nice 288 GTO. I have the Bburago, Hot Wheels and I recently bought the GT Spirit version and none are great. I was hopeful with the KK Scale version, but it doesn’t look right either. Maybe BBR looks good, but I’m not sending that kind of money and this Amalgam looks horrible and $1000 is just insane for any model.
How can a car enthusiast be interested in having a model of a car of the “pop up head lights era”, so to speak, and fork out a 1100$ for a 1:18 sealed model without pop up headlights? I just don’t get it.
And the same logic applies with scale models of cars that have some unusual opening door mechanisms in real life. How does a sealed model do any justice to those cars?
This one is probably the prettiest Ferrari of the more or less recent era….I believe that models have been made in excess, It would be great If DCS would tell us what would be the best model to get, I have the BBurago and it definetly a loser, would invest at least $400 for a worthy model of the GTO, I believe a Hot Wheels Elite is probably in the bulls eye, no sealed resin models are worth considering and worse even at $1000!!
Sorry, this subject is too subjective for us to define the best. What we can say, no model is perfect, and the above brand is in no way found on our final list on price alone! BUY what you can afford and enjoy it!
