Amalgam has unveiled their first image and only image of the upcoming 1:18 resin and sealed Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. Amalgam claims 800 man hours of model development using CAD data. Parts list includes “castings, photo-etchings and CNC machined metal components”. Pricing is north if $1300 US. Does the hobby require another 1:18 scale 300 SL Gullwing?
Product# TBD
Spend Usd 1300 for an incorrectly shaped SL? Look at the sill. Many manufacturers screwed that up and Amalgam is next in line.
Sealed? LOL! I’ll stick with Minichamps until CMC decides on one of these.
Neither the Minichamps nor the Schuco or Norev do it for me.. as for the question if the hobby requires another 300 SL? It does – until someone adequately does the car justice, the way it deserves. CMC would be my bet.. but they are still busy releasing the 87th possible livery of yet another low production Porsche..
NONE of the 1:18 Amalgam’s are worth their price. Too high, too many produced, and some quality issues. The false “claim” of “800 hours of model development” is a load of BS. They have also produced this in 1:8 scale as well where 99% of the development time was spent!!
Well, they will sell it through Ralph Laurent fashion stores, so most likely they will sell them to mostly car ignorant people with loads of cash….Not for us model car collectors
Nope, way too expensive and incorrect for this price tag. I am totally fine and happy with my good old Minichamps 300 SL.
Well, I’m fairly happy with my Amalgam F40 that cost half of what it does now when I bought it.
Otherwise, the Schuco 300 SL (and CMC Uhlenhaut) fully satisfy my needs for this model.
