AUTOart New Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S – Solarbeam

First look at the AUTOart hand-sample 1:18 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S in Solarbeam/Yellowish Orange.  I don’t understand why they would release this model since the industry is already diluted with a plethora of related AMG muscle.  And the brilliant release from Norev is available at a fraction of the cost – see review HERE.  Nonetheless the model does feature improvements, such as the perforated grilles, functioning rear spoiler and hinge work.  See complete list of announced colours below.

Composite or diecast? I’d love a model of this, but not a composite.

  2. Roberto says:

It’s composite!! Why is it so hard for people to grasp this?!? Every new mould from AutoArt is going to be composite. I’m sick of every time there is AA news, people just ask or complain about composite.

    • DS Team says:

This is a forum where people can express their thoughts and opinions, just like you are doing above. Please respect that.

    • JS Coleman says:

This website is, after all, known affectionately (and officially) as DIECAST Society. Maybe there will be another website called COMPOSITE Society for people like you who don’t seem to care that AUTOarts have just become cheap, easy to scratch, and rubbish – but in the meantime, expect complainers.

      • Roberto says:

I definitely prefer diecast. I just ordered my first composite from AA, the red Vanquish. I haven’t received it yet, but if I don’t like it, I will let my wallet do the talking in the future. I just think this hobby, which I enjoy very much, has become riddled with complainers. I hope we can all stay positive (including myself) and keep it fun.

        • JS Coleman says:

Enjoy the hobby by all means – it’s not hard – but criticism is essential. I have heard much praise on this website and elsewhere for good models, and therefore it is fair and natural that there is much protesting for bad ones.

        • Frank says:

For what it’s worth: I’m with you, Roberto. I can appreciate everyone having their own opinion, but after the 3rd time it doesn’t add to the discussion. Of course, that’s an opinion too…

  3. George K says:

You must have missed the recent Honda RA272, a pure diecast and a magnificent model. I’m not wasting money on “composite” toys. If this is the future of the hobby, then I’m glad I have all the CMCs, Exotos and diecast AutoArts I need.

  4. Robert says:

I’m always surprised at how many people complain about AA making their new releases in composite… I haven’t seen too many complaints about real static, non opening resin models, and they’re asking way more than what Autoart is selling theirs. I’d much, much rather have a composite Autoart Corvette Z06 than the same as a resin BBR. A lot of companies are turning towards resin models without opening features. Now THAT I don’t like.

    • JS Coleman says:

Yes, I don’t know too many people who would rather a $300+ sealed Ferrari F40 than a $200+ diecast F40. But they don’t have much choice now.

But this time round, we’ll do our best to resist.

  5. Jay says:

Not really interested in it since ‘Norev’ did a excellent job on their AMG GT. I’d rather buy two Norevs with different color. Still the engine detail looks nice though

  6. slartibartfast229 says:

Leaving aside the now ancient arguments about materials used, a bigger issue for me is why we have to have several models o the same subject (leaving aside the colour options). There are still a number of deserving cars awaiting their turn in 1/18th scale….

  7. Martin says:

I don’t think a composite model can be compared with resin. A resin body is as stiff as a diecast body, but those composite models aren’t. The paintjob is also different and not the same as the good diecast or resin models. It’s thin and it looks like it’s not clear coated. I also think that the main bodies from the composite Autoart models are casted in the base color of the model, like what Revell started and stopped soon after all the complains from collectors. Okay they where not that good on this plastic stuff as Autoart, but the fact is that maybe some shutlines are finer, but overall the negatives are bigger than the positives.
I really hope they listen to their buyers soon!

  8. John says:

The Maisto Exclusive is a pretty fine model too. Not quite Norev, but not too far off. I have the Norev and Maisto Exclusive. The Maisto you can get for about 1/4 to 1/5 of what the AA will be.
