PS – Big congrats to AutoCult for winning their first award from DieCast Hall of Fame.  They took first place, “New Manufacturer of the Year 2017”.  Well done, and well deserved!

In 1970 Werner Bernhard Heiderich, Spanish Porsche importer by profession bought a Porsche 914/6. The idea of the mid-mounted engine pleased him, but not the design of the car.  Heiderich entrusted the Italian designer Pietro Frua with the task to design a car body to his liking. Aim was to follow the design of the gull-winged Mercedes-Benz Type C 111. Though the result definitely based on the design of the C 111, it lacked one striking feature – the gull wing doors. Heiderich was charged with 200,000 DM (Deutschmark) and assumed that this would already include the rights of series production. In 1971 the new designed Porsche was confidently presented at the Geneva Motor Show. But while Werner Bernhard Heiderich was already planning the series production, designer Pietro Frua considered the amount paid only for the one-time design. These several points of opinion led to a lawsuit that entailed the impounding of the vehicle at Pietro Frua’s command. Both sides were not able settle out of court. Finally in 1976 the lawsuit was ruled in favor of Heiderich and he got his car back. But unfortunately this was far too late for the planed series production as the production of the VW-Porsche 914 was already ceased in 1975.
Therefore the one copy of the Porsche 914 Hispano Alemán Vizcaya, which still exists today, remained the only one.
