BBR Diecast Metal Ferrari LaFerrari & LaFerrari Aperta

We’ve always been a fan of diecast metal with opening bits…  Layer than on top of a classic Ferrari supercar and you have our attention.  BBR has just released official images of their upcoming LaFerrari and LaFerrari Aperta in Rosso Corsa 322 exterior, though these are pre-production samples.   Details and features include rear lift open and close without stops, functional rear wing, detailed interior and more.  Four versions will be made available.  Basically, the standard version in styrofoam shell or elite piece with leather base and optional cover (for an additional 22 Euro).  Pricing starts at 278 Euro, we’re still trying to figure out if this is with or without VAT.

We also highlight a couple of alternative colours for their 1:18, diecast metal Ferrari F12 TDF, new is Titanium Silver and Matt Green.  The masking on the Silver is a replica of the car tested before delivery to the customer with front protection.  A limited example of 80 units only.  The Matt Green is a one-off version car as ordered at the Ferrari factory from one lucky customer!

It’s 339 eur with VAT (and 346 for ‘elite’ version with leatherette base) so it must be 278 without VAT.

  2. Atalante says:

The 278 euro starting price is without VAT. And it’s 250 euro if you are a BBR myWay member. That’s consistent with the F12 tdf pricing …at least for me.

  3. Gabriel Abadi says:

Already preordered both display cases, also awaiting my two die-cast FXXK-Evo’s

  4. Andrew says:

Whats the release date of the laferrari

  5. Karsten says:

Great, I have this red LaFerrari on pre-order for ages. It’s so good that the non-opening fuel-filller cap looks odd. What’s that strange rod protracting from the footwell across the driver’s seat?

    • Craigj3534 says:

Looks like part of the structural bracing came loose. In the other pictures of the interior you can see the same piece attached on the passenger side.

      • Karsten says:

Ooops, serves as a warning to handle with utmost care, as it lays testament to its fragility. They must have overlooked this when publishing the pics.

  6. DS Team says:

Keen eye! It’s the prop rod for the rear hatch. Note, this are pre-production samples…

  7. Shawn says:

If I sell my disappointing HWE version (which seems to go for more than original MSRP nowadays), I can pick this up for the price of a HWE LaFerrari. Tempting…

    • Roger Lodge says:

What? Not sure where you’re from, but new HWE LaFerraris sells for about $150 USD, the BBR version will be around twice that.

  8. Lucky13 says:

OMG! I just love the peacocking and utter BS on the forums…… How exactly did anyone had the diecast LaFerrari “on preorder for ages”, when it just became available for preorder? Get a grip guys. It’s just a fancy packaged Minichamps model.

    • Karsten says:

Let me try to give you the chance to resolve this by giving you the opportunity to do the decent thing and apologize before you dig yourself an even deeper hole like Josh in the comments for the AUTOart Mustang Shelby Gt350R who was finally ashamed of himself. Those who know me will know that I usually do my utmost to be fair and tell the truth, but that I will not give in on impertinence. Do yourself, your reputation and this website’s commonly friendly atmosphere a favour and apologize while you still can!

      • Michael Moskov says:

No, seriously, I would love you define ing something for ages and then to tell em when exactly did you place your preorder. I can offer you my apologies when I receive yours for the last BBR fiasco, where you questioned the purchasing prices for the TDF. Now THAT was maybe close to “ages ago”. When you were still buying models from your local store and had no idea what “My Way Club” was.

        • Karsten says:

No problem: I pre-ordered it with an online retailer on 6 Sept. 2018, two days after your (? you seem to be using different names for some reason) post that you readily accept as “close to ages ago”. It´s true that some of my pre-orders pre-date this, so my apologies for not remembering that this ought to be counted amongst my more recent pre-orders. I am glad that it is yet covered by your definition of “ages ago”.

As for the “peacocking”, if birds are known by their feathers, e.g. the colour of them, then your posts here https://www.diecastsociety.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=677&p=10548 might fit the description. You were parading your modifications to some models (good job by the way), fishing for compliments and telling everyone how your local Ferrari dealer wanted the Ferrari. What´s the colour of the TVR? Peacock purple?

You casting stones sitting in a glasshouse really makes me laugh.

    • DS Team says:

Typical. Peacocking. It seems you spread your feathers now and again. Stick to the topic at hand. Thank you.

      • Michael Moskov says:

Yes. Peacocking. That is the best description for Karsten’s attitude. Not the first time either. And yes, I am visiting less and less, because of attitudes like that. Not just here, but the diecast forums and FB groups in general. I really don’t understand why diecast guys can’t be like the plastic model guys. There is no drama there.

        • DS Team says:

Look, at the end of the day be respectful that is all we ask.

It is your choice to visit or not to visit, no one here is holding a gun to your head. I know this site provides value, insight and conversation for all. I hope and others and understand and appreciate that. Thanks.

  9. Astronat says:

Rear window not opening? Hmmm…. Seems like HW Elite with small improvements and correct door panels. Same functionality.
    Is it worth it?

    • DS Team says:

Elaborate on the rear window? TIA.

      • Michael Moskov says:

I assume he is talking about the way you can open only the window panel on the rear hood on the real car. It gives you access to the engine accessory reservoirs without having to lift the entire engine cover up. I used to have pictures of it, but can’t find them now.

  10. Weha says:

I think this model looks promising.

I have two Elite laFerrari models and they’re quite nice, but I am hoping that this BBR will be nicer.

I don’t feel as convinced it is going to match the earlier Kyosho/BBR offerings, but the new LAF looks like a good fodder for an extensive/expensive mod.

I had some work done on my HWE LAF and the result was quite nice, but you can still see the HWE qualities underneath…

I was looking closer at those up rights holding up the doors, and I am hoping they are just moveable struts.

The hinges on my BBR Enzo are quite small when you look at the HWE LAF. They hold up the door quite well. I wonder if the construction will be as delicate as my AutoART MP4-12C. (It should be lost that these are all different price points that I bring up in comparison…but isn’t that the point any ways? I mean you could always by a big-box cheapster and slap on some paint and decals. But alas, you’ve still paid for a cheapster with cheapster construction and went out and got better paint…take that where you’d like…)

Getting back to doors, I hope they are not as flimsy as my AutoART MP4-12C…

    • Michael Moskov says:

This model will be better than I can ever make an Elite to look. For few simple reasons. The way it is engineered and the materials used. Having said that, based on their TDF model and the same asking price, this is going to be again made by Minichamps in China and it will be at the same level of detail and quality – better than HW, but not quite as nice the older BBR diecast by Kyosho. Because let’s face it, the F12 TDF that Minichamps made for BBR can’t hold a candle to the F430 Kyosho madefor BBR. But to be fair, the F430s and the Enzo before them, were more money back then, than the LaFerrari is being offered for now. If you take inflation into consideration, the Kyosho/BBR would be at least double the price of the Minichamps/BBR in todays money.
So, I believe these models are actually a great value all things considered. By today’s exchange rate they are $275. Take into account AA prices, licensing and the resin alternatives and this is a deal, anyway you look at it. At east in my book.

  11. Mir says:

In this picture exhaust pipe has horizontal crack line.
laFerrari coupe has weak parting line. And those of aperta seems almost crack.
    Will it be fixed?
It seems very disappointing to me.

  12. Mir says:

There is another defect. The gap between door and fender near front window seems too big. Will it be fixed? Those two that I mentioned make me hesitate to preorder this one.

    • Michael Moskov says:

My understanding is that these are pictures of preproduction test in their final stage. So the issues you’re talking about should be addressed before final production. Like I said above your comment, I expect these to be a good value models – relatively speaking – besides some disappointing issues I had with my F12 TDFs.

      • Mir says:

Actually the gap in the picture is bigger than hot wheels elite laFerrari. So I’m very concerning…. I hope that it will be fixed in final production.

  13. Giuseppe says:

I preordered both, but to be honest the windscreen wiper is orrible, like in the TDF. In the Enzo and even in the 430s they were much better. It’s a 300 € model, why don’t you put a photoetched windscreen wiper? I’m willing to pay even 50 euros more for that (and maybe for the brand on the tires too).

    • DS Team says:

50 Euros more for wiper! Love the passion!!

      • Giuseppe says:

        (horrible not orrible)

it’s the details that make the difference :)

        • Michael says:

I hear what you’re saying and I have very mixed feelings about it. Photo etched parts that is. And prices. To give you an example, I have made a photoetched rearview mirror on a model before, which consisted of four separate parts and getting creative with shaping 5min epoxy. It was left the natural silver (billet aluminum looking was the idea) and looked believable because it was in 1:25 scale.

So, first of all, it would be cost prohibitive on a 250 Euros model, because of the steps required to produce a realistic looking photo etched wiper. Photo etched is flat made from either nickel or brass and the very process that creates the part is a chemical which leaves residue, which does not take paint very well. In other words, if you want a cost efficient PE part you end up with the wipers on the Hot Wheels Elite models. In my personal opinion a well molded plastic piece would always be better than a flat thin piece of photoetch. Perfect example would be the Photoetched grille on a HWE Ferrari 575, which looks far inferior to the plastic piece on the non Elite model. You can make it realistic from photo etch by putting a grille together from about 12 separate pieces, but then you have a CMC model with the corresponding price difference.

I am all bout the small details. And I couldn’t agree more with you, that it’s the details that make a model. But those details come at a cost. And sometimes that cost is just not worth the price.

On the pictures of the preproduction sample of the LaFerrari, there is no wiper on the model at all. On the Aperta pictures the wiper looks just fine and at least as good, if not better than on the F430s, which were not photo etched on a model, which in today’s money would approach the $700 mark. And by the way, the old BBR (Kyosho) F430s were better models than their Enzo in more ways than one.
