Bburago Signature Edition 1:18 Ferrari Monza SP1

A year or so ago Bburago created some buzz with their full access 1:18 Ferrari Monza SP1 in exterior grey.  2021 will bring a rare Signature series edition of the same, however, this example is highlighted in a more traditional colour of Ferrari Red.  With upgrades over the entry-level release, this Signature edition SP1 should resonate well with collectors, a possible DiecastSociety Model of the Year 2021 candidate too.   We have a sample on order, the team will provide a full review soon!

About the Ferrari Monza SP1…  “The beginning of a new Ferrari era! The two cars Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 herald the beginning of a new line of Ferrari models, the so-called “Icona” series. The aim is to build exquisite cars inspired by classic Ferrari models. The Monza SP1 is a real head turner: The single-seater is equipped with the most powerful non-hybrid engine ever installed by the Italian carmaker in a mass-production car – but comes without the comfort of a roof or a windscreen.

What are supposed tp be the improvements over the regular version?

    • DS Team says:

In addition to below, there is additional carbon fibre work. And to be 100% transparent, the team has never seen the Race/Play version in the flesh.

  2. Alex says:

The color of the car,the interior zone of the bonnet and the trunk are painted in black and have a porexpan box

  3. spikyone says:

It looks OK but not particularly special. Those doglegs are huge and for an open roof car the interior looks rough. Still more of a toy than a model.

I might be seeing things, but I think there may be a little perforated mesh. I even think I see what appears to be a couple of struts on the front bonnet (accompanied by those massive hinges)… they still have a loooooooooong way to go before I would entertain the thought of them keeping the Ferrari license. I guess I’ll just have to continue waiting for BBR to occasionally decide to contract a diecast version of one of their examples. As of yet, Bburago is not going in my collection.

The logos on the back are metal stickers, there are a few additional prints and the insides of the hoods are painted black – that’s all the differences (apart from the colour, of course). The “Race & Play”-model is an excellent budget piece, it is a shame they went with this uninspired fantasy decoration for the “Signature”-variant. I hope the stripes can be easily removed…

I wonder how long is this farce going to go on before they lose\drop the license and let some brand that can actually make adequate quality models have a go with Ferrari cars? I mean, I’d like to have the option of buying something branded Ferrari in between Norev and LCD in terms of quality and price, since BBR current offerings are out of my budget bracket.

    • DS Team says:

Absolutely! If the current DS poll is an indication there are many others too!

    • LTcollector says:

Giorgio262, speaking of Norev, there is a Ferrari 308 GTS in the coming soon section: https://www.carmodel.com/norev/187930/1-18/ferrari/308-gts-1982/144976 Who knows, maybe we’ll see more of Ferraris from them? That would be good for our hobby

      • Giorgio262 says:

Yes i regularly check carmodel.com for upcoming models (and I regularly use their encyclopedia function to browse for older models too, very useful) and I noticed among a couple Alfa GT Veloce also the 308. They’re usually rather accurate in terms of price, so, judging by the low price of the 308, my guess is it’s going to be a sealed model. I already have a 308GTB 4 valvole by Kyosho so I don’t feel the need for another 308GTB but still, while I appreciate some of Norev’s higher quality models, I have no interest in any sealed models, so if that’s the route they intend to follow, then those models ae definitely not for me. But I supose those who’ve been showing some interest in Ferraris by KK, could actually be interested in likewise sealed Ferrari models by Norev. I didn’t find KK Ferraris particularly well proportioned or detailed, while Norev seems to be able to capture the shape of the actual cars quite well. We’ll wait and see I guess.

I Don’t Know, I Like It. No One Forces Me To Stare At The Dog Legs All Day Long And That Is The Only Major Flaw I See Here, So I’m In. I Bet It Looks Great Standing Next To Blue Lambo V12. My Only Question Is, Where Do I Order One In Germany?

    • DS Team says:

They should be arriving within the European Union soon.

    • Evert Delanoye says:

Agreed, not terrible at all. Of course for many they loose half their appreciation because of the Bburago brand name, but in this price range it’s a decent model. I’ve paid much more for models that weren’t half as good as this Monza SP1.
