Beijing Hobby Expo 2023 (UPDATE)

** UPDATE ** More updates, this one comes from KengFai, new is their upcoming 1:18 scale Audi R8 Coupe and Spyder version.  The pre-production samples do look delicious!

** UPDATE ** We just uploaded some cool shots of the upcoming 1:18 metal and full opening tuner LBWK Supra and Toyota Supra Super Street version.  Both of these should resonate well in certain circles.

** UPDATE ** Almost Real has presented another layer of photos.  These are definitely the best images we’ve seen of their presentation at the show.  Nice to see speed to market is more of a priority in 2023!

** UPDATE ** ICHEMO Model Store is highlighting a new option for the latest Lamborghini Countach offering.  Hong Kong-based Hung Hing Toys will be releasing a highly detailed 1:18 Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4.  In addition to the full opening, the exterior side is metal-based and the smaller details like hinges, wheels, shut lines etc look to be in compliance with those of the picky variety, even as the model on display is a pre-production sample.  Initial colours are White and Red with the White to arrive in August and the Red shortly after.  So far this looks to be the most complete Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4.  The question remains, is this a China-exclusive?  Or can the rest of the world enjoy this model too?  See below for photos!

There has been a three-year absence from the Beijing Hobby Expo, but the 2023 edition is definitely making up for it.  Attending manufacturers wise are China-based.  We earlier reported some news from MotorHelix on their upcoming models.  The likes of LCD Model and Almost Real are featured here.  Thanks to Edward Chew for providing most of the images, he will not be the official correspondent for 2024 and beyond.

Enjoy some of the samples of the long-awaited Almost Real Pagani assortment, they definitely look delicious!  LCD has the feature sport with the Green and also Silver McLaren F1.  If we’re honest the stance is off, something just doesn’t seem right.  What are your thoughts?  And we all know how picky Chinese collectors can be.  Enjoy!  Thank you, Edward!!  2023 is looking promising folks!

Gosh that LCD F1 needs a lot of refinement. Shame really as there 600lt was on point. Any idea when the AR Zondas will be released?

  2. Kostas says:

The two A80 Supras look very nice. Is there any information about their brand and their release date?

  3. ATEOTD says:

Something always looked way wrong with the LCD F1. When it was first revealed, the stance was too low in the front. Granted, it was an unpainted sample, but it was so off, it almost turned me off to their brand right off the bat.

Also, who’s making the Pagani Utopia?

    • ATEOTD says:

Also, AR is making a full carbon Zonda, but it’s still missing carbon from that area between the door and luggage compartment. LCD got that part right on their Zonda Barchetta, so what gives?

  4. SPONGE says:

So hyped for the orange Cinque ! We need more pics of the red Zonda F as I might be interested in that one too. Nice to finally see some interesting colors for the F1 at 1/18, they just need to fix the ride height and the rest of the model seems fine. I’m very surprised there is already a Utopia prototype, which seems to be an LCD one since there is an LCD Roadster BC right next to it. 2023-2024 will be great !

  5. Andrew says:

    Who’s making that countach?

  6. Patrick Timmermans says:

They got the color right onstage green F1 resembling chassis XP5

  7. Patrick Timmermans says:

Any pics on the red Zonda F next to the orange Cinque?

    • HOTWEELS164 says:

Couldn’t find it anywhere on the internet (chinese websites covering the event or facebook pages).

I’ll definitely go for this version of the Zonda F when it comes out!

  8. Peter says:

    Wow, that’s some news!

Why does that carbon Zonda have black wheels and black interior though? Full carbon with red interior and normal wheels would be beyond bonkers!

    • MRM says:

My thoughts precisely. Also if they are making the Cinque Roadster, why not make the regular Zonda F Roadster. An all carbon Zonda F Roadster with red interior would be ultimate.

  9. Karsten says:

I am a little confused on what manufacturer is making what model?! Who will make the Countach LP800-4 ?

I’m confused too. Does anybody know wich manufacturer will release de Jaguar X308, and what is the scale?

  11. MRM says:

I truly hope AR milks the Zonda foundation for all it’s worth, just like with their G-wagons and make as many different variations as possible. The Cinque is a must for me as I am really happy with their Zonda F. I just hope they make the regular Zonda Roadster too. These are going to be three Paganis I would buy for sure. I would consider the all carbon Zonda F, but only if they put the all red interior in it. I even don’t mind the blacked out wheels. By the way, did anyone notice that the murdered out carbon Zonda is RHD? That is a lot of work that, in my opinion, could have been invested elsewhere. If they go on and make the other variations, like the Tricolore, the LH etc., it would be cool too.
I couldn’t care less about the LCD F1s, as I already have all the F1s in the colors I like from AA. I would be interested in their Huayra R, but only if they step up their game from their Roadster versions, which I would best describe as crude. I would also love a fully opening Utopia, but what is presented here is pretty much the resin mock-up that BBR announced when the real car debuted.
The Countach seems cool. I understand it is a preproduction sample , but some things are poking my eye (like the upright seats). I am wondering if AA would come out with their own model and maybe even Kyosho. Then the price differentiation would be the deciding factor I guess. I personally am not a big fan of the real car, so the Bburago/Maisto rendition would do just fine for me. Maybe with some minor mods.
I am surprised nobody mentioned the other two McLarens, the Speedtail and the Elva. They both look cool.

    • SPONGE says:

The Utopia is probably an opening LCD since you can see in the reflection that it is sitting next to an opening Huayra Roadster BC. Also, the angle doesn’t really allow to see the shutlines of the panels
The carbon Zonda F is a replica of an old example that resided in Hong Kong. It then has been converted to the Zonda King. I agree that there were better specs to do with a carbon body, but at least they didn’t go for a completely fantasy spec

      • MRM says:

There are no shut-ins in the panels of the Utopia. It is pretty clear that the model displayed is a solid buck, used for prototyping. It is probably 3D printed or just solid resin. It will probably end up as a detailed opening model, but my point was that it is in the very early developmental stages. Basically it is showing intent to build the model, which is most likely not coming out for quite some time.

        • SPONGE says:

I mean the real deal was revealed a little over 6 months ago so of course it won’t come out anytime soon. Idk for the shutlines, I just said that the angle didn’t allow a proper view, but you may be right even though I wouldn’t make any conclusion yet

  12. David says:

I finally realized that Chinese consumers have such high requirements for products, and I also understood the reason why AR is not popular in the Chinese market. Chinese consumers are conducive to the development of the automotive model industry and have promoted its progress.

    • JIMMY says:

It’s a damn shame that while the Chinese market still likes opening parts and attention to detail, the U.S. and Western European markets are all about lowering standards, cheapening products and (at the end of the day) still charging high prices for resin models.

  13. Patrick Timmermans says:

On the kengfai pics do I see a Bugatti Centodieci by them?

  14. ATEOTD says:

Sorry, another question: Whose LFAs are those in the background of the Supra photos?

This is the most exciting Hobby Expo (for me) I’ve seen in a while. Unfortunately, I don’t have unlimited money. :(
