…, but no 300SL Gullwing (as yet). So after Minichamps ´, Norev´s and Schuco ´s , the definitive Gullwing has yet to be made. Seems like even CMC are shying away from the challenge and the opportunity for their 30th anniversary, unlike their „Black Prince“ for their 25th anniversary. Maybe such an icon as the 300 SL Gullwing is reserved for their 50th anniversary…
Agree with what Karsten says. The non-gullwing 300SL isn’t especially iconic IMO, ask anyone about the W198 and the first thing they’ll think of is those doors.
We were a little overzealous and assumed it was the GW. The article has been edited.
Agree with the above. Although the roadster will be a welcome addition there is already a faithful scale reproduction on the market (Minichamps). That cannot be said for the Gullwing, all models maker that attempted (in 1/18 scale) failed!
Like many, I’m expecting a W198 Gullwing from CMC. The challenge of gullwing doors shouldn’t be a problem for CMC, who excel in this engineering with their 300 SLR Uhlenhaut. However, the W198 Roadster will still be unmissable and is, in its genre, a splendor too. I hope they do all the colors in European headlights, much more elegant than the two-part headlights of the US models.
