Float Your Boat: Mitica Riva Boat & Trailer

Mitica has not received much attention yet on DiecastSociety.com. But as we found out in our review of the Alfa Romeo 156 variants, the Italian manufacturer really invests quite some Italian pride and enthusiasm into Italian icons at affordable retail prices. Their latest announcement to be released soon (Q1/2026) is an Italian classic, the smallest of the classy 1960s Riva motorboats, the Riva Junior, on a trailer. Mitica say this:

The Riva Junior was launched in 1966 as the successor to the Riva Florida. Designed as an entry-level model to the prestigious world of Riva, it was more compact and manoeuvrable than the shipyard’s other models, but without compromising on the elegance and craftsmanship typical of Carlo Riva. With a length of 6.25 metres and a powerful Chris-Craft V8 engine delivering around 190–220 hp, it reached remarkable speeds and was ideal for both day trips and water sports such as water skiing. The characteristic varnished mahogany deck and chrome details made it a symbol of Mediterranean style. The Riva Junior was a great success in the 1960s and 1970s, with over 600 units built. In addition, the sea-green model was owned by the actress Brigitte Bardot. It is still highly sought after by collectors today and is one of the icons of Italian nautical design.

Collecting emotions, the idea was born to reproduce this wonderful motorboat on a scale model. This Mitica model has been made with great attention to detail. The chassis is die-cast with some plastic accessories. The wheels are rubber with a faithful reproduction of the tread, and the suspension is functional. The front wheel is steerable. The motorboat is made of hard plastic that faithfully reproduces the fibreglass effect of the real motorboat. The seats and cushions have been reproduced in soft material for a realistic feel. The wooden panel in the centre of the motorboat can be folded down to position the sunbathing cushions. There are also decals for the number plates to be applied to both the trailer and the car towing it. A wonderful but delicate model, to be handled with care. We recommend displaying it in a sealed display case to avoid dust.   (Carlo Pretaroli)

This will be offered with either turquoise blue or cream soft foam upholstery for spectacularly accessible 100€ (as compared to the VMB´s Riva Aquarama). Does that float your boat?
