New Exoto? Late 2021? WHAT!

Well, Exoto isn’t quite finished just yet.  An announcement today or should we say a photo of an early grey-wear model of what we believe to be the Ferrari F158.  Details are little at this time, but what we do know is the model is full access, 1:18 and is set to sail in late 2021 as per Exoto.  More likely 2022, any way you shape it is nice to see something from Exoto, who is still labelled one of the best-detailed model brands ever.

What about instead of making new molds and developing new models, they start producing the models they promised 20 years ago, such as some Chaparrals….

    • DS Team says:

If they haven’t been completed by now they are likely never to be completed. Not the first time models were announced by the manufacturer and then cancelled. Unless, you left a deposit?

    • Mclarenman60 says:

Not sure to say fortunately, or unfortunately I know all too well the Exoto by law suit can not be allowed to produce Chaparral’s. I was originally from Midland, Texas and met Mr. Hall and he is not a big fan of Exoto since they(Exoto) decided not to pay any royalties toward Mr. Hall and his company on previous sold Chap models. He wouldn’t autograph anything connected to Exoto, and I don’t blame him. Wonder if Exoto would be back up to their shenanigans related to there new models like they did in the past? You would think Ferrari would know better than to commision Exoto to build there replica’s. Exoto basically did the same thing to Ferrari as the did to Chaparral.

As consumers, we don’t care about licenses. We only care about whether the quality of products is excellent and whether the price is reasonable. I hope exoto can produce more new products. Now the price of CMC is very unreasonable. Pullman’s price has exceeded $1000.

        • DS Team says:

LOL, there is no way this model will be less expensive than a CMC product.

        • Lou T. says:

I own many models of both Exoto and CMC. Both are fine quality but Exoto has been plagued with numerous complaints of no service, poor service and not delivering what they promise! CMC has continually produced new releases yet I haven’t seen anything new from Exoto. As far as pricing, everything has gone up in the last year or so and Exoto seems to think that their discontinued models are worth (in their opinion only) far more than what I, or most knowledgable collectors would ever pay. For these reasons, I put CMC well above Exoto overall.

      • MLB says:

Ferrari also took Exoto to court. Same problems as with Chaparral. Ferrari NEVER commissioned Exoto to make anything. They simply had a Lic. agreement with Exoto, which Exoto broke. After that first ‘incident” all Exoto Ferrari’s were produced without any Lic. or ok from Ferrari.

        • DS Team says:

Likely explains this move to the classic Ferrari greater than 40 years… possibly taking notice of the loophole with licensing.

        • Mario says:

CMC has no Ferrari license since 250GTO, because it made a small change to the Ferrari logo and won the lawsuit.
Acme also has no Ferrari license. They have also recently produced Ferrari models. There should be many such brands, such as GTS and KK……

        • Fede Roloff says:

You are a typical double standard. At present, many brands do not have Ferrari licenses, and they still produce Ferrari products.

Many years ago I was at the Monterey Historics searching Vendors Island for models I could not live without. I began talking to the owner of one of the stands and told him about my extensive 1:43 and 1:18 scale collections. He smiled and reached under a table and pulled out brand new Exoto Chaparral 2E and 2F’s, the versions with no decals. He said he had gotten them from a shop in Europe and had the shipped over for the Historics. I immediately agree to buy them. As Chaparral was a featured marque that year, Jim Hall was signing autographs in the pit area. I stood in line and asked Mr. Hall to sign my models. He politely refused to sign them stating that Exoto had not paid him a licensing fee

If Exoto is still alive we need the Ferrari 250 LM. Pre-production samples were shown many moons ago …

  3. Mario says:

    Ferrari?I can’t wait!I want to buy it!

    • Aaron says:

A 488 Pista w/FULL OPENING ACCESS would be sweet too. Just as long as it’s NOT too expensive

      • DS Team says:

Don’t hold your breath on Exoto doing anything modern from Ferrari or any other marque for that matter.

        • Aaron says:

I certainly am NOT holding my breath for anything. It’s just a rotten shame that Hot Wheels Elite is no more or that would’ve been a sure thing

          • DS Team says:

Please explain how HWE and Exoto compare in any shape or form?

          • Aaron says:

Well there may not be any comparison between HWE & Exoto. But all I’m saying is that if HWE was still up and running full speed with the Ferrari license, we collectors would at least have had a full access 1/18 488 Pista already. Among other models of Ferraris that ought to be made in said way

  4. Mclarenman60 says:

Two things if this goes through. First, do NOT pay a pre-order of anything from Exoto. I did that years ago when I thought they were going to produce the Chap 2J they took my money even though the product was never made, took an act of congress to get it back. Second, you are better off buying through someone else besides Exoto direct. You can go on Diecast X change website and read the horror stories in their “Diecast Disasters” section.

  5. Charlie says:

Who in their right mind would buy anything from exoto?! I quit buying their products around the time of the sharknose release. What a bunch of delusional, self-serving clowns! I believe tony’s wealth (or as I understand it, his wife’s wealth) is the sole reason exoto comes up for air every now and again. For me; and I never got screwed like a lot of their customers or business partners, there is schadenfreude in watching exoto circle the drain. Let. them. die. Some other maker will fill the gap.
