AUTOart is upping the ante with official new production images of the Aston Martin Vanquish and Corvette C7 Z06. The feature is the stunning Aston Martin Vanquish in Volcano Red, it will also be joined by the Selene Bronze with two-tone Black/Tan interior. The Corvette C7 Z06 is new in Racing Yellow exterior. I can’t help but comment, the exterior does look somewhat toy-like in appearance. Though both the Vanquish and C7 are composite base…

Composite looks like plastic… But we don’t have the choice :'(
After paying over $300 for an AUTOart’s Lamborghini Huracan, I have formed the resolution that I will never buy another “composite” (euphuism for cheap plastic) model again.
And as collectors, we do have the choice. If everyone was to protest with their mouths and wallets, diecast AUTOarts would suddenly reappear – and for that, we would all be richer.
What’s the alternative ??? Minichamps doesn’t look great for me. Is there another diecast brand with the same Autoart quality ?
Those are some color combos on the Vanquish that I can get excited about!
It’s somewhat shocking to see Autoart deviating from the boring black-white-silver colour line (the Corvette not counting of course). But again, materials used do not influence the quality of paintwork. Autoart have always been struggling with this part (hence the conservative colour line I guess).
Well, we can’t fault Autoart to try something new to lower production costs, they’re actually using composite materials to do just that. I have 1:18 models from almost every manufacturers from Maisto to CMC and BBR, with everything in between. I have yet to get one of the composite Autoart and eagerly wainting for the C7 Corvette. But I have a BBR Corvette that doesn’t open at all, wheels don’t pose, doors don’t open and not chassis detail whatsoever… Those? Never again, especially at those prices. I like the idea of Autoart trying something better than REALLY static resins.
Well, I own a metallic red Corvette from BBR and I think it’s by far the best model out there. Ok, I always say that it’s a shame that at least the doors don’t open because the details are there. Buy the convertible instead to solve that problem. And who cares about the underside; leave it attached to it’s base and no-one will ever see it.
The finish is very nice, I agree, but to bash Autoart, like the others are doing here… i don’t quite agree with them. I have a ton of Autoart cars, they all have excellent finish, something I can’t say for some others that charge just as much for their product. Talking about you Acme-GMP… But for the same money as BBR, (and sometimes a lot less) I’ll take the Autoart version everytime. To each his own I guess.
It’s not about bashing Autoart but for the prices they ask I expect top work on the painting, never mind the materials. I too own a range of Autoarts but some fail quite hopelessly on the paintwork. Even GTSpirit for half the price wins it evey time. In this day and time you need to progress on your quality and techniques. And not just raise the price. Still, I will give these two a close look because they just might have done it this time.
You’re right Frank, I agree that when I pay big money for a model, it needs to be right there with quality. Ok I have yet to be disappointed with an AA model and I believe they can do bad just like the others. Sorry to see that you had bad experiences with them. Having paid good money for some cars that should have been perfect and were FAR from it, I know where you stand! Resin model finishes should never be less than top notch, these manufacturers don’t have to fiddle with engineering any moving parts and still charge top dollar..
If AUTOart is doing composite to save production costs, then why are we paying more than ever?
Does anyone know if they will ever make the Lamborghini aventador lp700-4 in another blue color?! I really like the color blue but a lot of 1/18 scale models don’t have a blue color option which I like…
