** UPDATE ** It took some time, but the team finally heard back from the Hot Wheels representative — and while we wish we had more to share, here’s what we know so far. The new agreement is in place, but the specifics, including how far this partnership extends in terms of scale, remain under wraps for now. However, once the details are locked in, the team has assured us they’ll follow up with more info.
So, stay tuned—because this is just the beginning!
BusinessWire is reporting the reunited pair of Hot Wheels and Ferrari! If you have been collecting for some time, this iconic pairing was a sweet spot for collectors who wanted a decent opening replica at a terrific price point. We’re excited about the news! This is great for all. Hot Wheels will offer opening price points to “ultra-premium” opening models. The first production samples are set to arrive this spring! Yes, please!
As a 1/18 Ferrari only collector I’m so stoked for this. I hope they continue where they stopped in 2013 and give us amazing Elite models.
I am quite sure that they will not start with 1:18 scale Ferrari as Bburago holds the license. As per their 2025 catalogue, they only removed 1:64 category so only that scale license is transferred to Mattel!
This is my assumption, not facts!
Yes, possibly.
Are there any informations about what models will be made? I would love the SP3 Daytona or the SP2. Or the F50….
Nothing yet. Likely something will surface at the Toy Fair !
If you read the press release, it very clearly states that the new collection will be about premium collectibles sold via Mattel Creations and 1:64 HW mainline models. There is no mention of any larger scale models.
We’re going connect with HW, hopefully they will provide further insight and clarity. Fingers crossed!
If you ask Google AI it says that yes, Hot wheels is making 1:18 scale Ferrari diecast again as well as other scales with the first models expected spring 2025. I don’t know where it’s sources come from…lol
Yes being paranoid I was looking for explicit mention of scale but the release just goes: “The new product line will expand on the previous die-cast collection and will include limited-edition models available through Mattel Creations, RC models and 1:64 scale die-casts available wherever Hot Wheels are sold globally.”
“expand on previous diecast collection” I guess that refers to their 1:18s because I don’t think they did 1:43s and stuff. Might have just been 1:18s and 1:64s back in the day.
Which also brings us to another point- if Hotwheels is rebooting 1:18 scale tooling & production, what’s stopping them from going all out and bringing in other manufactures! Make a full comeback then!
They did even 1:87. 1:64, 1:43, 1:24 and 1:18.
Fingers crossed for the following in opening 1/18
Ferrari 355 GTS
Ferrari 488 Pista
Ferrari 499P Le Mans Winner
1978 Ferrari 312 T3 driven by Carlos Reutemann
An affordable, but good quality Pista would be really dope. Fingers crossed they get back into the 1:18 market
Excellent News. Looking forward to them releasing 1:18 scale diecast Models of the most recent models from Ferrari from 2015 up until now. Very excited indeed.
YES! This is the best news ever! Bye Bye Bburago! Hot Wheels should never have had the licence taken away from them in the first place! Bring it on!
This is great news. Over 10 years wasted on inferior Bburago ‘toys’. Can’t wait.
I can’t believe it, this is brilliant. I have not purchased anything Ferrari since Bburgao took over. So glad Hot Wheels is back. Bburago and Ferrari was a waste of time and effort.
They never had the license taken away from them. It was their own choice not to renew it. So Bburago stepped to the plate as no one else could afford it.
Keep fingers crossed for F430, Testarossa / 512 TR and 458 Italia / 488 / F8 Tributo !
All of these, save for the F8, have been already made in 1/18 by multiple manufacturers.
Any chance Mattel could get licence for Lamborghini, McLaren as well ? AutoArt should be really afraid, concerned then as I guess
There are lot of us excited for this news… but most probably only 1:64 scale car license could have be acquired by Mattel. This is due two facts I see in all the news flashes…
1. They have not mentioned Elite or Super Elite anywhere in the statements, which calls for further investigation. Why waste a license with a generic base variant.
2. Bburago still have lot of announcement in their 2025 catalogue in 1:18, 1:24, and 1:43 scales… They only removed their 1:64 offering which kind of clears the air a bit.
But thighs could change so soon in any direction so even have my fingers crossed for 1:18 elite and super elite Enzo, which I miss to date.
Really, 1:64 only ? Not 1:18 ? Can’t believe
Fantastic news if it means that more 1:18 scale Ferrari models come on to the market as ‘Elite’ editions – or perhaps some of the existing ones will be reissued as Kyosho is doing. I can’t wait for more firm information.
For me, the potential downside is going to be finding more display space for my collection if Hot Wheels gets back to its past prolific release rate – but a good problem to have!
Being pedantic, “Elite SE” were “Special Edition” I think was the Hot Wheels terminology.
Will they finally make a 400i/412 …?
Really hoping they revisit the glue they used on windscreens and windscreen wipers as a significant percentage of the models previously released in in the 1:18 Elite series have had this glue perish and parts fall off the models. Paint rash was also a big problem with those models.
