OttOmobile Entering the Scale Truck Model Segment

There is definitely props given to OttOmobile for re-inventing the wheel once again.  The team keeps pushing boundaries within the hobby that all collectors do admire.  Their latest foray is the scale truck segment.  Though this territory is very niche and with core collectors a very selective bunch there just might be a win here.  Main reason price point!  Typically these scale models cost hundreds of dollars, and very limited production runs.  Will this be a success for OttOmobile, only time will tell.  Their prototype model features a 1:18 Renault next to your entry level compact car.  Wow!

This truck is the Renault Magnum, and just in case you don’t know, one of the most famous European trucks.

We did not. Are you speaking to the marque or this specific platform? It seems the large trucks are more celebrated and admired in Europe than here in North America.

      • Karsten says:

Oh, yes, there are quite a number of truck collectors, though trucks are extremely rare on this scale as they are HUGE then. Prices for a Mercedes Actros by Eligor have gone through the roof and there are eastern Europeans who handbuild trailers for them. Mininchamps and Schuco have bulit aerial ladder fire trucks, a wonderful 1950s panoramic roof coach isabout to be released and some people collect tractors in1/18. Personally, I hope that Schuco and/or CMC will do a diecast London doubledecker bus, the good old Routemaster, on that scale.

If I had the money, I’d immediately purchase a black Mercedes-Benz Actros by Eligor and order a car-transporter trailer right away. But for now, well, let’s just keep fantasizing!

      • Lausambaychua says:

I was referring to this particular Magnum line. While Renault does manufacture some other lines of trucks, this is arguably their most well-known and well-praised product.

I would consider buying 1/18 trucks; in particular North America ones from brands like Kenworth, Freightliner, Western Star, Peterbuilt and Mack.

    • Lausambaychua says:

You can’t find those trucks in that scale, because simply no one makes them. They would definitely be out of reach for most, if not all collectors, if you’re expecting them to have Eligor-quality, Furthermore, they will be TOO LARGE, as the Actros by Eligor, despite being a 4×2 COE configuration, is still huge, compared to even an SUV of the same scale, or you can take the picture of a 4×2 Renault Magnum compared to a Peugeot 205 above for an example. However, if you are interested in the 1:50 segment, you will have a wide range of trucks to choose from. From European to American trucks, and from your “typical” 18-wheelers to specialized, heavy-duty trucks, there is something for everyone.

    I would LOVE to see a high-quality 1:18 version of Kenworth / Peterbilt :-))))

Yes, Kudos to Ottomobile for this project. I have the 1:18 Eligor Actros and it’s an awesome model. This Renault truck will make a perfect companion for my Actros. If Ottomobile can price this model well, I’m sure many collectors will buy. I hope this is just the start, and Ottomobile will make many more 1:18 trucks (European, American and Japanese) in the future. When will this model be available in the market?
