Koenig Specials is a German tuning company founded in 1977 by Willy König. The company became famous in the 1980s and 1990s for heavily modifying high-performance cars, especially Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches. Their upgrades often included aggressive widebody kits, larger rear wings, and significantly more powerful engines.
One of their most well-known models is the Koenig Ferrari Testarossa, which featured twin-turbocharging, pushing power outputs beyond 1,000 horsepower in extreme versions. This made them some of the fastest cars of their time. However, Koenig’s modifications were controversial, with Ferrari disapproving of their extreme tuning and bodywork changes.
Koenig also experimented with high-tech materials like Kevlar and carbon fibre and even dabbled in building their own supercar concepts, such as the Koenig C62, based on a Porsche 962 race car. While the company is less active today, its wild and extravagant creations remain iconic in the world of modified exotic cars.
The Koenig 348 Twin Turbo is a high-performance modification of the Ferrari 348 by German tuner Koenig Specials. Known for extreme upgrades, Koenig equipped the 348 with twin turbochargers, boosting its 3.4L V8 engine from the stock 300 hp to around 520 hp. This dramatic increase in power allowed for a 0-60 mph time of under 4 seconds and a top speed exceeding 200 mph.
In addition to performance upgrades, Koenig offered aggressive aerodynamic kits, wider wheels, and improved suspension for better handling. With its enhanced power and unique styling, the Koenig 348 Twin Turbo remains a rare and sought-after tuner Ferrari.
When it comes to scale models, GT Spirit continues to impress on multiple levels. First, their ability to think outside the box when selecting cars to replicate sets them apart, consistently bringing unique and unexpected specimens to collectors. Second, they remain a dominant force in the exotic tuner segment, pushing boundaries and capturing the essence of modified legends with remarkable accuracy.
Their latest release, the Koenig/Ferrari 348 Twin Turbo, is yet another example of their dedication to this niche. GT Spirit has done an admirable job of translating this bold and aggressive machine into scale, capturing the essence of one of Koenig’s more visually appealing creations—though “attractive” is, of course, a subjective term when it comes to these wild tuners. The paintwork is exceptionally well executed, with fine details such as exterior decals adding to the model’s authenticity.
One of GT Spirit’s strongest areas has always been their wheel replication, and the Koenig/Ferrari 348 Twin Turbo is no exception. The wheels are beautifully crafted, staying true to the original design and adding to the car’s overall presence. This remains one of my favourite elements of the model.
For collectors who appreciate exotic tuners—especially those with historical significance—GT Spirit’s lineup is undoubtedly worth a closer look. This Koenig/Ferrari 348 Twin Turbo marks the sixth Koenig model in my collection, all courtesy of GT Spirit, and it’s another fantastic addition to the series. Enjoy the pics!
Thanks for the great pictures and insights. Koenig is about the only tuner I’m interested in for Ferraris, and this model looks very attractive!
Thank you for the feedback! It seems this tuner doesn’t resonate with many.
