About the Shelby Cobra 427 S/C…  “This is a very special Shelby 427 Cobra. It is the winningest 427 Cobra of all time, driven by Dick Smith in SAAC. It also set the fastest speed of any 427 Cobra in history at 198.047 mph at Daytona International Speedway in 1967 driven again by Dick Smith. You’re probably already aware that his “#198” trademark livery represents his top speed (198 mph), clocked and eternally etched into Cobra racing history… as the highest speed ever officially recorded for a Cobra roadster…in 1967 at Daytona International Speedway. The car is now kept at the Riverside International Automotive Museum after being sold for over $2,000,000.”

The livery is nice, shame it’s not on Solido’s model.

Solido, if you’re listening, please consider adding Cobra to your new premium model line. The proportions of Solido’s 427 are best of all the 427’s out there in 1/18, it deserves proper detail, since the base molds are already there.

Yes, the livery is nice, but Shelby Collectibles’ work on this model is still rather sloppy in the sense of not accurate enough, not authentic enough. On the one hand they did not turn their standard Cobra 427 dashboard into the one with the many gauges of Dick Smith’s car (the way they did it on the blue 427 Super Snake), on the other hand they did not add the unique front and rear bumpers that make Smith’s #198 car look different from any other Cobra 427. These two changes would not have made the production of the model much more expensive, and they would have made serious collectors a lot happier!

I always have this feeling that this is based on the older Kyosho and later Road Signature toolings.

indeed, Shelby Collectibles / CMR uses same Kyosho knock off toolings…

also their Cobra Daytona and GT40 line up uses Exoto knock off toolings
