Sun Star Mercury Cougar Racing-#42

More vintage Ford Cougar racing from Sun Star.  This example is defined as Mercury Cougar Racing-#42 – 2011 Northwoods Shelby Club.  Again, 1:18 scale, diecast metal with full access.  How many times will they dust off this mould?  Does anyone know the exact number of these models to date?  I guess sales are there if they keep adding livery and colours to the production line.  Shelf date is scheduled for July 2020.

That is my car that Sunstar copied without permission. Owned for 25 years, built in this comfiguration 11 years ago.

Nice story, please tell us more?

I have just found out about this die-cast release a few days ago. I tried to contact Sunstar, but have not received a response yet. I’m flattered that my Cougar is in die-cast, but it would have been nice is they would have asked. I seriously doubt that I’d get any royalties off of it, not that I was looking to. But as a courtesy, Sunstar could send me a few copies. As for the Cougar, It is a tribute car to the Bud Moore Trans Am Cars of 1967. I did change the color to blue and silver instead of read and silver and chose the #42 that has hidden meaning to me. I built it to be SCCA & SVRA legal to run vintage events. I however only run open track events with the Northwoods Shelby Club for the better part of 10 years now. My Cougar runs a 302/347 stroker motor, toploader 4 speed trans, 9″ rear with 3:73 gears. It’s loud, fast and a lot of fun to drive. I’ll have it up at Road America this weekend, July 3,4 for the Northwoods Shelby club Midwest Invitational event. Stop up.

Sorry to hear. So, are you stating they released the car based on available images to duplicate cars livery?

          • Jeff says:

Yes, I would assume so. I had no knowledge of this die-cast coming out until last week. There are many photos on the internet of my car and it does get photographed a lot at shows and at the track. Granted the concept of a Bud Moore Trans Am tribute car is nothing new or original. But as far as I know, I’m the only one with running Nordic Blue/Thunderbird Silver paint with the number 42 participating with the Northwoods Shelby club. Thanks for letting me vent. I guess I’ll have to buy a die-cast of my car.
